Westernport Water's core functions are to provide drinking water, recycled water and wastewater services to properties and communities throughout our district.

We are one of 18 water corporations operating and reporting to the State Government of Victoria.

We are responsible for servicing 23,688 customers from 27 townships across an area covering 300 square kilometres, encompassing Millowl (Phillip Island) and mainland communities from The Gurdies to Archies Creek.

The region has one of the highest ratios of visitors to residents of any destination in Australia. During peak periods, there can be approximately 120 visitors to every resident.

About the role

Workplace Health & Safety Advisor - Ongoing, Full-time

Band 5 ($81,829.28 - $104,041.08)

We are seeking a practical and proactive WHS professional with strong knowledge of WHS legislation, risk management, incident investigation and WHS systems. The ideal candidate will be a confident communicator who can build strong relationships, provide practical advice, influence safety culture and work collaboratively with managers and employees to drive compliance and continuous improvement.

You will bring sound judgement, strong organisational skills and a hands‑on approach, with the ability to balance day‑to‑day WHS support with broader improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibility Areas

• Support the implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of the WHS Management System and annual WHS Improvement Plan, ensuring compliance with relevant obligations.
• Provide advice and support for hazard identification, risk assessments, incident investigations and the implementation of corrective and preventative actions.
• Promote a proactive safety culture by providing practical WHS guidance, coaching and support to managers and employees.
• Conduct WHS inspections and audits and lead initiatives that strengthen WHS compliance, controls and continuous improvement.
• Deliver WHS training and inductions, support contractor compliance, and provide WHS advice during emergency management activities.
• Support injury management and Return to Work processes and provide WHS expertise to the WHS Committee and People & Culture initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience

• Tertiary qualifications in WHS related discipline or related qualifications
• At least 3-years' experience.
• Strong understanding of OHS Act 2004, Regulations and Codes of Practice, with experience working within the relevant legislation.
• Proven experience in WHS inspections, audits, risk assessment, incident investigation and corrective action management.
• Experience with coaching staff on hazard identification and reporting.
• Experience in WHS improvement projects (includes development, implementation and review).
• Well-developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with and transfer knowledge to people at all organisational levels.
• Administrative skills in Microsoft office and the proven ability to learn, use, implement and coach staff on WHS tools (such as Rapid, SafetyCulture).
• (Desirable) Experience and/or training in RTW and workplace injury management.
