The team

The Child Safety and Wellbeing Service sits within the Office of the Chief Risk Officer (OCRO), a division established to strengthen statewide leadership and capability in risk management across the Department of Health. OCRO provides strategic risk oversight, structured governance, policy coordination and whole-of-system safety initiatives that support safer services and better outcomes for Tasmanians.

Working collaboratively across the Agency, the Child Safety and Wellbeing Service provides leadership, governance and oversight to promote the safety, wellbeing and protection of children and young people. The team works closely with clinical, operational and executive stakeholders to identify safeguarding risks, strengthen organisational capability, support continuous improvement, and embed a child-safe culture in accordance with the Child and Youth Safe Standards.

The role

Join the Office of the Chief Risk Officer in a pivotal role that helps shape child safeguarding practices across Tasmania's public health system. The Principal Coordinator – Child Safety and Wellbeing Service leads the assessment and oversight of safeguarding risks, supports high-level governance and reporting processes, and provides expert advice on complex child safety matters. The position plays a key role in embedding child safety, accountability and continuous improvement across the Department of Health.

The successful candidate

Applicants will bring:

• Demonstrated expertise in assessing and managing complex child safeguarding risks, with the ability to identify emerging issues and implement effective risk mitigation strategies.
• Proven experience coordinating and reviewing safety incidents, analysing trends and driving evidence-based improvements within governance, risk or safety frameworks.
• Highly developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to prepare strategic reports, briefings and governance documentation, and provide authoritative advice on sensitive matters.
• Strong leadership capability, professional judgement and adaptability, with experience operating independently in complex environments while maintaining confidentiality and supporting organisational change.

• Permanent
• Full time
• 76 hours per fortnight

Salary

$132,460 to $139,392 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

• Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2025.

Eligibility

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

• Current Working with Children Registration.

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable

• Relevant tertiary qualifications in social work, law, or a health-related discipline, supported by experience managing sensitive matters and working with confidential information.
