We are partnering with an incredible, fast growth well funded start-up, building automation solutions, powered by AI. We are seeking a Senior Associate - Commercial Real Estate, keen to move into Legal Technology, as the Head of Product (Real Estate). This is a greenfield role and you will define what that future looks like for property practice.

If you are a senior property practitioner, keen to move beyond individual matters and shape how an entire practice area operates, this could be for you. You will lead the domain vision and product direction across property development, leasing and commercial property transactions, working directly with engineering and design to turn deep legal expertise into a new generation of matter management infrastructure. Unique to market, this role can be split between legal engineering and practicing if preferred.

Your mandate is to question how property work is organised, identify what no longer needs to be manual, and design how matters could run without the constraints of legacy systems. You are already exploring what generative AI makes possible in legal practice and have moved beyond curiosity into practical use and you want the opportunity to shape the systems, not simply use them.

About the Role:

• You will define the vision for the real estate platform. Set the product direction and priorities across development, leasing and commercial transactions, grounded in deep practice knowledge and direct engagement with property teams.
\n
• Rethink how property matters run. Design better ways of coordinating parties, managing dependencies, capturing instructions and progressing matters from inception to completion — rather than simply digitising existing processes.
\n
• Turn your legal expertise into working products. Work hands‐on with engineering and design to translate transaction structures, legal requirements, business rules and exceptions into features, data models and reliable automations.
\n
• Build for the complexity of real practice. Shape workflows spanning development acquisitions, subdivisions, off‐the‐plan sales and project settlements; commercial and retail leasing; and commercial acquisitions, disposals and due diligence.
\n
• Apply AI with ambition and judgement. Identify where generative AI can materially improve legal work, where rules‐based automation is more appropriate, and where practitioner judgement must remain central.
\n
• Lead engagement with the profession. Run peer‐to‐peer conversations with property partners and their teams, challenge assumptions constructively, validate the product against real matters and turn feedback into product decisions.

• Set the standard for legal quality. Ensure workflows are accurate, complete and jurisdictionally sound, with clear controls around confidentiality, risk, exceptions and decisions requiring lawyer review.

About You:

\n

\n
• Substantial hands‐on experience in Australian property law, spanning property development, leasing and commercial property transactions, with the seniority and judgement to lead complex matters. Strong working knowledge of development structures and project workflows; commercial and retail lease negotiation, variations, assignments and options; and commercial due diligence, contracts and settlement.
\n
• An active, self‐directed user of generative AI in legal practice. You have proactively explored and applied AI tools to improve research, analysis, drafting or other legal workflows, within appropriate confidentiality and professional obligations.
\n
• Practical AI fluency. You understand the basics of how generative AI works, how instructions and context affect its outputs, and why source verification and human review matter. You recognise risks including hallucinations, confidentiality, privilege and over‐reliance.
\n
• The ability to distinguish between work that can be automated, work that AI can assist, and decisions that must remain with a lawyer.
\n
• The ability to explain complex legal and commercial processes clearly to technical teams, with precision around business rules, dependencies and edge cases.
\n
• Credibility with senior practitioners, the confidence to challenge conventional approaches, and the willingness to take ownership inside a fast‐moving product build team.

Nice to Have

• A significant advantage: you have built your own productivity tools or workflow automations using Claude Code, OpenAI Codex or similar AI coding tools. These do not need to be production‐grade applications. We value the initiative to identify a practical problem, build a working solution and improve it through use.

• Hands‐on experience introducing new legal technology into a practice. You have helped evaluate, pilot or implement a platform, adapt workflows, support colleagues through adoption and embed it into day‐to‐day matter delivery, ideally with measurable improvements.

• Experience advising developers, landlords, tenants or commercial property investors across multiple Australian jurisdictions, and exposure to the financing arrangements underpinning property transactions.

• Deep property expertise, practical AI fluency and the ambition to build are key.
