• Base Salary $132,533 - $157,381 p.a + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

The University of Sydney is seeking applications for a Lecturer in Geology. The primary function of this position is to undertake research and teaching in the field of geology while also making a significant collaborative contribution to research using data science tools/methodologies applied to geology and geochemistry. Fieldwork experience and a research profile that demonstrates a potential connection towards critical mineral exploration is highly desirable.

The position has responsibility for teaching courses in new and existing curricula at the undergraduate and postgraduate level under the broad theme of critical minerals and the energy transition. The applicant will be expected to teach fundamental and advanced concepts in geology effectively in the classroom, lab, and field, supported by digital-based approaches including virtual training and teaching.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• Contribute to knowledge within geology and geochemistry

• engage in high-quality teaching and learning experiences (at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate levels) which meet the University’s expectations and standards for education

• design and deliver quality educational programs and experiences that support student needs and meet curriculum requirements

• influence outstanding teaching and learning outcomes

• contribute to research, education, and administrative activities

• develop an academic profile through conferences, seminars and industry engagement

• enhance a positive workplace culture and strategic direction of the University.

About you

• a PhD in geology or a cognate discipline

• a combination of skills across data science tools/methods and fieldwork

• good organisational and administrative skills with attention to detail

• a high level of written and verbal communication skills
