Wyndham Central College is situated in one of Victoria's major growth corridors, approximately 30 minutes west of Melbourne, and provides education for students in Years 7 to 12 from across the Wyndham community.

The College is committed to delivering a rigorous, guaranteed, and viable curriculum, enhanced by the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program. Through AVID, students develop the skills, strategies, and dispositions necessary to succeed in their learning and pursue their chosen pathways with confidence. The curriculum is enriched through a range of innovative and challenging programs designed to cater to diverse student interests and aspirations. These include the Years 7-10 Enrichment and Victorian High-Ability Program (VHAP), the Years 7-10 Spanish Immersion Program (SIP), the Middle Years STEM Academy, the Football Development Program, and the distinction of being one of only three Hindi Beacon Schools in Victoria.

To further strengthen student outcomes and realise the College vision, all students develop a Careers Action Plan (CAP) and an individual learning plan commencing in Year 7. These plans promote goal setting, reflection, and ongoing consultation between students, teachers, and parents/carers. This strong three-way partnership is fundamental to student success and is supported by an extensive Tutor Advocate program, comprehensive pastoral care structures, whole-school wellbeing initiatives, a Student Services Centre, and a Community Hub.

Supporting the College's Educational Improvement Plan are modern, purpose-built facilities, including a Trade Training Centre, a dedicated Year 7 Centre, Years 8 and 9 Centre, and a Senior Years Centre, each supported by dedicated administration teams. Specialist learning environments include a state-of-the-art Science and STEM Centre, a Performing and Visual Arts Centre featuring an auditorium, and extensive indoor and outdoor sporting facilities, including a gymnasium. These facilities are complemented by thoughtfully designed active and passive recreational spaces, extensive landscaping, and a student-centred library that supports study, research, and collaborative learning.

The College's leadership structure comprises the Principal Class Team, including the Principal and Assistant Principals, each with dedicated leadership portfolios. This team is supported by Leading Teachers responsible for key areas including Year Level Leadership (Engagement and Wellbeing), Literacy, Numeracy, Pathways and Transitions, AVID Pedagogy and Operations, Senior Years Program Management, and Campus Management. Further strengthening instructional excellence are faculty-based Learning Specialists, who lead Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and support the implementation of high-impact teaching practices and AVID instructional strategies across the College.

Selection Criteria

• 1. Demonstrated sound and safe working knowledge of hand and power tools and the ability to efficiently undertake general handyperson tasks, repairs and maintenance to the interior and exterior of buildings and ground works within the College.
• 2. A strong work ethic and a sense of pride in efficiently completing work to a high standard and in a timely fashion.
• 3. The ability to work as part of a team or individually and to follow instructions.
• 4. Ability to communicate and cooperate effectively with tradespeople, suppliers and colleagues.

Role

This position attracts 4 weeks annual leave.

Range 3 is distinguished by the introduction of management responsibility and accountability for the delivery of professional support services. The role will usually impact beyond the work area or professional field. It seeks to gain cooperation of other staff members or members of the school community to achieve specific objectives, such as in school administration, operations or educational programs.

Direction on targets and goals is provided but the position will have some degree of latitude in determining how they are achieved. This latitude will generally be limited by standard procedures and school policy.Deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.

The provision of business management responsibilities becomes a feature at range 3.Management of staff to achieve the expected outcomes is a key responsibility.Staff management issues will be resolved with minimal reference to senior management, although guidance will be required in more complex cases.Senior management will be provided with timely reports and advice, although this will generally be confined to matters relating to the immediate work area, service provision or educational program and is unlikely to impact substantially on whole of school operations.

This is the minimum range for positions that carry a mandatory qualification requirement of not less than four years.Professional student support positions become a feature at range 3 (e.g. therapists, psychologists) where standard professional services are delivered.Professional support and guidance will be close at hand and deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.

An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor.Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee¿s position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.

Responsibilities

Wyndham Central College requires that our Maintenance Officer be self-motivated, enthusiastic, show initiative and be capable of manual labour. They also need to be able to competently use power and hand tools, equipment and machinery.

The following is also required:

• To possess and produce evidence of a current working with children¿s check.
• To always work within the policies of Wyndham Central College.
• To be aware of Occupational Health and Safety requirements noting that all duties must be carried out to comply with current OHS legislation.
• Able to work as part of a team or individually.
• Sound and safe working knowledge of hand and power tools.
• To have knowledge of and a keen personal interest in maintenance work.
• Basic mechanical knowledge to assist in minor repairs to gardening equipment.
• Current Test/Tag certification and a driver¿s license would be advantageous.

Duties and responsibilities:

• Building maintenance and repairs, including small carpentry, plastering, plumbing and painting jobs and other tasks that do not require a licenced tradesperson.
• General cleaning, graffiti and rubbish removal as required.
• Receive and assess maintenance requests as directed by the Facilities Manager, assessing and prioritising workloads.
• Implement routine maintenance procedures as directed.
• Ability to climb ladders to access roof spaces for the purposes of cleaning gutters and retrieval of sporting equipment.
• Be capable in assisting in or solo movement of college furniture as required.
• Perform good quality corrective and preventative maintenance work.
• To assist with garden and ground maintenance when required.
• To ensure all equipment and machinery are stored securely and cleaned after use.
• Report any repairs required to the Facilities Manager.
• To keep the gardens, thoroughfares and footpaths clear and free from litter.
• Always be courteous to staff and not liaise with the students at the College.
• To follow the directions given by the Facilities Manager/Assistant Principal and other duties as directed by the Principal.
