Engineering Manager - Licensing & Regulation: SSN AUKUS Build Program

About the Opportunity

This role represents a rare opportunity to work on the pioneering SSN AUKUS Build Program, delivering an essential sovereign capability for Australia. As the manager, this role will be responsible for overseeing the coordination, creation and implementation of ASC's/Shipbuilder nuclear licensing application(s) and supporting strategies through engagement with the Submarine Enterprise relevant regulatory bodies. This role is part of the Nuclear & Capability Department, focusing on ensuring that all nuclear activities meet stringent safety, regulatory, and performance standards. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including project managers, engineers, and regulatory bodies, to ensure successful Regulatory outcomes and integration of nuclear technologies within the NPSCY.

This is a full-time role located in South Australia, at our Osborne site

Engagement with international partners is necessary for this role, therefore out of hours meetings/work required.

Note: This role is established early in ASCs Nuclear pathway. Therefore, this role will change with the evolving needs of the business.

Responsibilities

• Provide necessary support to the Licensee and the Organisation to ensure successful license application(s) and shipbuilder compliance is maintained
• Develop the regulatory strategy, Plans and compliance arrangements
• Ensure all nuclear engineering activities comply with relevant safety and regulatory standards.
• Provide technical leadership and support to the nuclear engineering team. Address and resolve technical challenges, ensuring that all activities are conducted efficiently and effectively.
• Identify and mitigate risks associated with nuclear engineering and regulatory activities.
• Maintain clear and effective communication with all stakeholders, including project updates, technical reports, and regulatory compliance. Provide regular updates on nuclear engineering activities.
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in processes and systems. Implement innovative solutions to enhance efficiency, safety, and performance.

About you

• Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Safety, Nuclear or other domain applicable qualifications
• 5+ years' experience within regulatory affairs of nuclear or other highly regulated industry.
• Experience managing inter-organizational stakeholders
• Experience in nuclear engineering or related area, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within the defence or maritime industry.
• Experience coordinating with a team of technical personnel in complex and changing environments.
• Proficiency managing regulatory documentation and maintaining compliance records
• Specific experience within the regulation, code of practice and guidance interpretation will be highly regarded.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance as required by the organization

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance to an NV1 level. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
