The SESLHD Mental Health Service is a specialised clinical service, providing care to a local population of over 930,000 residents in the Sydney metropolitan area. We provide care within both hospital and community settings to support people living with mental illness at times when acute intervention is needed, or to remain well in their community and lead their own recovery.

Join the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District Safeguards team as a Family and Carer Peer Navigator and use your lived experience to help families and carers navigate the mental health system with confidence, hope and understanding.

\n

Working within a supportive multidisciplinary Child and Adolescent Mental Health team, you'll provide peer-based support to families and carers of young people experiencing mental health challenges, helping them access the information, services and resources they need throughout their journey.

\n

Based at Kogarah with district-wide responsibilities, this rewarding role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by advocating for families, strengthening connections to community supports, and contributing to improved outcomes for children, young people and their carers.

You will be based at Kirk Place Kogarah, with travel across the SESLHD.

Selection Criteria

\n

\n
• Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or willingness and commitment to obtain.
\n
• Personal lived or living experience as a family member or carer for a young person with a mental health condition between 0-17 and ability to utilise the lived experience to support other carers in their own mental health caring journey.
\n
• Demonstrated understanding and experience of the navigating mental health care services for young people and families.
\n
• Demonstrated ability to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team and actively contribute to clinical care planning processes in a team setting within allocated timeframe.
\n
• Demonstrated ability to contribute to strategic service planning and policy development for the peer workforce and consumer participation.
\n
• Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders.
\n
• Current drivers licence (or a willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position).
\n
