Lead Auditor – Aviation Security

Help set the standard for aviation security at Sydney’s newest airport

ACESGroup is seeking an experienced and detail-focused Lead Auditor to join our aviation security team at Western Sydney International (WSI) Airport.

This is a key role within a major new aviation operation, providing assurance that our people, processes and operations meet contractual, regulatory, safety, security and quality requirements.

Working closely with aviation operations, quality, safety and training teams, you will lead the monthly audit and assurance programme, identify areas of risk and non-compliance, and use operational trends and previous audit findings to drive targeted improvement.

The Role

As Lead Auditor, you will take ownership of the planning, delivery and reporting of audit and assurance activities across the WSI operation.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Develop and submit a monthly audit schedule outlining planned audit, inspection and assurance activities.
• Own and deliver the approved monthly audit programme, ensuring activities are completed within required timeframes.
• Ensure audit planning is influenced by trends, failures, incidents, non-conformances and recurring issues identified during the previous month, with audit activity targeted towards areas of higher risk or operational concern.
• Meet monthly audit and assurance KPIs in accordance with the Quality Assurance Program.
• Conduct audits, inspections and compliance reviews across operational processes, systems, records and service delivery.
• Review areas including training records, equipment testing, operational records, ASICs and licensing, WHS, risk management, safety and security compliance and quality systems.
• Identify and document non-conformances, risks, trends and opportunities for improvement.
• Prepare clear, accurate and evidence-based audit reports for submission within required timeframes.
• Monitor corrective and preventative actions and follow up to ensure findings are appropriately addressed and closed.
• Provide regular reporting on audit outcomes, recurring issues, trends, actions and continuous improvement opportunities.
• Develop and deliver post-security incident toolbox talks in collaboration with the Training Manager to support operational learning and drive continuous improvement.
• Work closely with operational leaders to translate audit findings and incident trends into practical improvements in frontline service delivery.
• Support external audits, inspections and assurance activities undertaken by Western Sydney Airport, regulators, airlines and other authorised parties.
• Maintain appropriate audit records and evidence to support internal and external assurance requirements.
• Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of the Quality Assurance Program and audit methodology.

The WSI contract requires internal auditing across areas including training, licensing and ASIC compliance, WHS and risk management, quality management, safety and security compliance, operational records and other contractual requirements. It also requires audit findings to be formally reported and follow-up actions monitored.

The contract also provides for inspections and testing to be planned through the contractor's Auditing, Inspection and Testing Plan, with audit and assurance activities forming part of the broader assessment of service quality and compliance.

About You

We are looking for someone who is analytical, objective and confident working across a complex and highly regulated operational environment.

To be successful, you will demonstrate:

• Previous experience in auditing, compliance, quality assurance, risk, governance or a similar function.
• Strong analytical skills and exceptional attention to detail.
• The ability to analyse trends, identify recurring failures and use evidence to determine audit priorities.
• Strong report writing and documentation skills.
• The ability to interpret legislation, regulations, standards, policies, procedures and contractual requirements.
• Confidence conducting audits and communicating findings with operational teams and managers.
• Strong investigation, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills.
• The ability to manage a structured monthly audit programme and meet reporting deadlines and KPIs.
• A professional, objective and impartial approach when dealing with sensitive or non-compliant matters.
• Strong communication and presentation skills, including the ability to deliver meaningful operational feedback and toolbox talks.
• Experience in aviation, security, transport, critical infrastructure or another highly regulated environment will be highly regarded.
• Formal audit, lead auditor, quality, risk or compliance qualifications will be highly regarded.
