Clinical Nurse Consultant - Refugee Health Service (517157)

The Team

This role is integral within an interdisciplinary team in the Refugee Health care setting, enabling effective assessment, case management, and implementation of planned, goal orientated transition of participants of Humanitarian Settlement Program (HSP) into health services provided within the North.

The Role

The Refugee Health Service Clinical Nurse Consultant undertakes a broad consultative role by initiating and maintaining a comprehensive network, building, and maintaining links with providers in the primary health setting including, community service providers and general practitioners in the transition of Humanitarian Settlement Program (HSP) participants to the Tasmanian Community.

Key duties/responsibility of the role are to:

• provide clinical leadership and consultancy with a focus on health education, and health promotion, and an emphasis on improving health literacy and strengthening individual and community capabilities to navigate the health system.
• provide consultative advice to inpatient hospital services as part of the multidisciplinary team to advocate and advise on refugee specific matters.
• develop and maintain effective collaboration and communication with internal and external service providers to achieve positive health care outcomes for clients and their families. This will include collaboration with GP services to facilitate the provision of standard refugee health screening for newly arrived humanitarian entrants as outlined in the Australian Refugee Health Practice Guide.

You will need (Up to 3 bullet points)

• Demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge and experience in working with culturally diverse client groups, together with understanding of the health needs of refugee and HSP entrants, and the range of issues impacting upon them, in relation to navigating the health system.
• Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, and proven ability to engage with a broad range of service providers and other stakeholders to facilitate the ongoing care coordination required for refugee and HSP entrants.
• Demonstrated high level problem solving, conceptual and analytical skills with the ability to make independent and collaborative judgements.

Details of appointment

Permanent, day worker, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing 27 Sept 2026

• notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary

$118,297 to $125,543 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

• Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

• Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type

Eligibility

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria

• Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse

• Holds or is working towards relevant tertiary qualification.
