Established in 1973 by local Aboriginal people, the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service (VAHS) is a proud Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation providing comprehensive health, social and emotional wellbeing and community services.

With more than 350 staff across four metropolitan Melbourne clinics and a residential youth drug and alcohol facility in Hastings, VAHS is committed to improving health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal people, families and communities.

VAHS is grounded in principles of Community Control and self-determination, with Aboriginal people at the centre of decision making and the organisation's future.

Your Impact

\n

As Chief Executive Officer, you will be accountable to the Board and lead VAHS, translating strategy into action and providing leadership across organisational performance, service quality, financial sustainability, workforce culture and organisational leadership.

\n

Specifically, you will:

\n

Uphold Aboriginal Community Control and self-determination, ensuring the voices of Members, Elders, clients and community inform VAHS's direction.

\n

Lead strategy and organisational performance, turning the VAHS Strategic Plan into measurable outcomes.

\n

Provide strong governance and financial leadership, ensuring sound financial management, risk management and compliance.

\n

Lead people, culture and capability, building leadership capacity and a safe, respectful and supportive workplace.

\n

Build strong relationships and partnerships, representing VAHS effectively across government, the health and wellbeing sector and funding bodies.

\n

Drive quality, sustainability and continuous improvement, strengthening VAHS's services, systems and future capacity.

What you bring

\n

You are an accomplished Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leader who brings integrity, cultural knowledge, strong leadership capability and a deep understanding of Aboriginal Community Control and self-determination.

\n

You also have:

\n

Senior executive leadership experience in an Aboriginal Community Controlled, health, wellbeing or community service organisation.

\n

Strong cultural leadership, with a deep understanding of Aboriginal Community Control, self-determination and cultural integrity.

\n

Proven organisational leadership, with the ability to translate strategy into strong performance across complex services and teams.

\n

Strong financial, governance and risk capability, with experience overseeing organisational resources and funding obligations.

\n

Experience leading health or community services, with an understanding of quality, compliance and regulatory requirements.

\n

Exceptional relationship and communication skills, with the judgement and credibility to represent VAHS across government, sector and policy forums.

\n
