In Victoria, our Aboriginal Archeology team works with State Government agencies, councils, and private clients to deliver practical, compliant heritage solutions, including through cultural values assessments, mapping and due diligence, the preparation of CHMPs under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006, Engagement with Registered Aboriginal Parties (RAPs) and Traditional Owners, Complex fieldwork delivery, including remote locations and the provision of specialist advice.

Our Historical Archaeology team combines field expertise with specialist desktop analysis to deliver comprehensive archaeological services. We work closely with regulators to secure approvals and ensure compliance, and our dedicated Digital Heritage and Geospatial unit—unique in Australia—applies drone photography, 3D modelling and GIS to record, interpret and present cultural heritage within complex landscapes. About the role

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced professional to join our Archaeology team as a Senior Heritage Advisor (Historical Archaeology) on a full-time, permanent basis. We are looking for a highly motivated professional who is passionate about historical archaeology and wants to develop their skills, experience, and career with us. The position is based in our Melbourne office, although we are also prepared to consider hybrid work arrangements on a case-by-case basis.

The core business of our Historical Archaeology Team is the assessment and management of historical archaeological sites, and the team works with a range of clients, including local and state government, developers and owners of heritage places to proactively identify, assess and manage heritage.

In this role you will be responsible for:

• Preparing high-quality fee proposals and work methodologies
• Historical research
• Undertaking archaeological survey and excavation and reporting,
• Regulatory liaison for compliance and Interpretation and presentation of heritage,
• Preparation of Consent applications and Liaison with Heritage Victoria,
• Preparing archaeological advice and excavation methodologies,
• Project Management and mentoring of junior staff
• Providing support to the Aboriginal Archaeology and other teams - both in Victoria and interstate - on an as required basis

About You

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate their ability to meet the following criteria:

Essential skills and experience

• A bachelors, and Honours or post graduate qualifications in archaeology
• Demonstrated professional experience of 5+ years.
• Demonstrated experience in historical archaeological field excavation
• Demonstrated ability to prepare documentation to a high standard
• Experience in delivering successful and timely projects.
• Demonstrated experience in surveys, site inspections, recording, and research.
• Strong working knowledge of relevant local, state and national level legislations
• Excellent oral, written, organisational, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated project management experience, including managing project finances, directing project teams, working to tight deadlines within budget constraints, engaging and managing subcontractors.
• Experience of working with multiple stakeholders including local governments and state departments.
• Driver's License

Desirable skills and experience

• First Aid Certificate
• Experience working in a consulting environment
• Demonstrated experience in conservation and/or interpretation
• Rail Industry Worker card
