About the job

The Council of Australian Life Insurers (CALI) is looking for someone who understands not just what policy reform is trying to achieve, but what it takes to make it work in practice.

As Associate Director, Industry and Implementation, you will bring practical life insurance expertise to some of the industry's most important policy and regulatory discussions. You'll help assess how proposed reforms affect customers, insurers, systems, processes and operations, and work with members to identify practical pathways for implementation.

You will work directly with senior leaders from Australia's life insurers, contribute to major industry reform initiatives and help shape CALI's advice to government and regulators. Your work will influence decisions that affect millions of Australians and the future direction of the life insurance industry.

This is a unique opportunity to sit at the intersection of policy, industry and implementation.

This is a two year full-time fixed-term contract role based in Sydney with hybrid working arrangements.

CALI represents Australia's life insurers and reinsurers and is the trusted voice of the life insurance industry.

We are a small, collaborative and high-performing team where people are trusted to contribute, bring ideas forward and make a genuine impact. You'll work closely with experienced policy professionals and industry leaders while enjoying a level of variety and visibility that is often difficult to find in larger organisations.

Knowledge, experience and skills required

We're looking for someone who can bring practical industry experience together with strong stakeholder engagement and problem-solving skills.

You will likely have:

  • Demonstrable experience within the life insurance industry.
  • Strong knowledge of life insurance operations, products, systems and customer journeys.
  • Experience implementing regulatory, legislative or business change.
  • The ability to assess the real world impacts of policy reform and identify practical implementation challenges.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Strong analytical thinking and the ability to work through complex issues
  • A collaborative approach and the confidence to engage with senior industry stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work within agreed timeframes.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and deliver quality outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
