Job description

Department of Education Victoria – Ringwood VIC

5d ago , from Department of Education & Training Victoria

Avenues Education is a mental health designated purpose Department of Education school in the South East Victoria Region (SEVR) that provides targeted education programs for individual and groups of students experiencing social, emotional, and or mental health difficulties in accessing education. The school receives referrals directly from Alfred Health and Eastern Health Infant Child and Youth Mental Health Services (ICYMHS). Depending on the program and individual health needs, students undertake lessons either at their enrolled base school or at Avenues Education ICYMHS locations in Moorabbin, Ringwood or Box Hill Hospital. The school works in partnership with Alfred and Eastern Health, and students cease to be part of Avenues Education programs when they are discharged from ICYMHS or when the educational reason for their referral has been addressed.

Avenues Education provides tiered assistance directly to SEVR schools, including mental health prevention and promotion activities, school capability building sessions, professional learning, consultation and liaison. The school uses the Victorian Curriculum capabilities curriculums and the department¿s Positive Classroom Management Strategies (PCMS) as the basis with which to build the capability of schools in recognising and responding to the mental health needs of students and reducing the barriers to student engagement in learning.

Avenues Education Teachers and Leaders must demonstrate exemplary teaching practice and highly developed skills to improve student learning in the context of social, emotional and mental health difficulties. Teachers and Leaders also provide consultation, liaison and the delivery of Professional Development to schools and other agencies.

All teachers and leaders work with both Primary and Secondary school students as part of our mixed and flexible learning setting. Avenues Education is located across a number of sites including Moorabbin, Ringwood and Box Hill. All staff work across all these sites and travel to schools in both regions.

For further information about the school, please visit:https://www.avenuesed.vic.edu.au/

Selection Criteria

SC1 Demonstrated capacity to lead and perform office management duties, including Cases 21 Accounts Payable/Receivable, ordering and organisation.

SC2 Demonstrated capacity to lead, communicate, participate and collaborate with others in a complex team environment, including high level oral and written communication skills.

SC3 Demonstrated knowledge and skill in the collection, formatting and reporting of data including Google Docs, Excel and Compass etc.

SC4 Demonstrated ability to work independently, under Business Manager direction, to prioritise tasks to meet school priorities and undertake Principal and teaching staff requests.

SC5 Demonstrated commitment to continuous professional flexibility, learning and growth of self and others.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate skills outlined in the selection criteria or can demonstrate capacity to learn these skills. The position requires the applicant to work across all sites (Moorabbin, Ringwood and outreach to Box Hill). The position will work in the Moorabbin and Ringwood sites equally across the week and in Box Hill as required. The position will be given extensive training, and we will support applicants who may aspire to learning the Business Management role in education.

Role

Range 3 is distinguished by the introduction of management responsibility and accountability for the delivery of professional support services. This role has impact beyond the work area and seeks to gain cooperation of other staff members or members of the school community to achieve the schools specific objectives, such as school administration, operations and educational programs.

Direction on targets and goals is provided, and the position has input into determining how they are achieved in relation to standard procedures and school policy. Deviation from standard procedures and school policy will be given under the guidance and direction from senior management. This is the minimum range for positions that carry a mandatory qualification requirement of not less than four years. Professional support and guidance will be close at hand and deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.

The provision of business management responsibilities becomes a feature at range 3. Management of staff to achieve the expected outcomes is a key responsibility. Senior management will be provided with timely reports and advice, on matters relating to the immediate work area, service provision and educational programs.

An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employees position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
