Structural Engineer

Platinum Consulting Engineers is seeking a talented Structural Engineer to join our growing team in Melbourne. This is a full-time position that offers a unique opportunity to contribute to significant infrastructure and construction projects across Victoria and beyond. As a Structural Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing, analysing and overseeing the structural integrity of diverse projects, from commercial buildings to civil infrastructure. Your expertise will directly impact the safety, sustainability and success of our projects, making this a position of considerable strategic importance within our organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Design and analyse structural systems for a variety of projects, including commercial, residential and civil infrastructure works
• Prepare detailed structural drawings, specifications and calculations using industry-standard software and methodologies
• Conduct site inspections and investigations to assess structural conditions and identify potential issues
• Liaise with architects, contractors, clients and regulatory authorities to ensure project requirements are met and compliance is achieved
• Review and approve construction documentation and building permits to ensure adherence to structural design standards
• Provide technical guidance and support throughout all project phases, from concept through to completion
• Contribute to cost estimation, scheduling and project management activities as required
• Maintain professional development and stay current with structural engineering standards, codes and best practices
• Mentor and support junior engineering staff as part of our collaborative team environment

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or equivalent professional qualification recognised in Australia
• Professional membership with Engineers Australia or equivalent body (CPEng or candidate membership)
• Minimum 3–5 years of post-graduate experience in structural design and analysis
• Strong proficiency in structural design software such as Space Gass, Structural Toolkit, SAP2000, ETABS, STAAD or similar packages
• Demonstrated knowledge of Australian Building Codes (NCC), AS1170 and other relevant Australian Standards
• Experience with residential and commercial building design, industrial structures or civil infrastructure projects
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
• Understanding of health and safety principles and commitment to workplace safety standards
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Bluebeam Revu software
• Preferred: Experience with sustainable design practices and building information modelling (BIM)
