The Role

\n

We are seeking a recent Graduate Mechanical Engineer to join our Rail & Metro team in North Sydney. As a Graduate at SMEC, you'll be part of a high-impact talent group, contributing to the delivery of major rail and metro infrastructure projects alongside experienced engineers and technical specialists. Our two-year Graduate Development Program (GDP) is designed to accelerate your growth — combining hands‐on project experience with structured learning, mentoring, and exposure across teams and disciplines.

Key responsibilities

\n

\n
• You'll support the delivery of real infrastructure projects from day one — contributing to design, analysis and documentation while learning from experienced engineers and gaining exposure to site and project delivery.
\n
• Contribute to the delivery of real projects by supporting design development, including drawings, models and technical documentation
\n
• Assist with engineering calculations and analysis across areas such as roads, drainage or structures under guidance from senior engineers
\n
• Participate in site visits and inspections to develop an understanding of how designs are implemented on live projects
\n
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate design inputs and support project delivery milestones
\n
• Learn and apply industry standards, tools and best practice through structured development and on‐the‐job experience

About You

\n

\n
• A degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline)
\n
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
\n
• Exposure to design tools such as AutoCAD or Civil 3D (12D or similar advantageous)
