Escape Smash Play is an entertainment venue in South Geelong. Three escape rooms, three axe throwing lanes, two smash rooms.

It gets loud in here. People come to throw axes, take a sledgehammer to an old printer, and drag their mates through a haunted house. On a busy Saturday everything is running at once.

You are in the middle of all of it. Teaching someone to throw. Fixing a set of jammed handcuffs in a prison cell before the next group walks in. Watching a team crack the last clue in the Haunted House and hearing them lose it.

What the shift actually looks like

You will often be running the venue on your own. That means a group throwing axes, a group in a smash room and a group locked in an escape room, all at different points in their session, while the phone goes and someone walks in wanting to book for Saturday.

Something is always broken or about to be. Props fail, magnets stick, handcuffs jam. You fix it between groups and keep moving. If that sounds like a good day rather than a stressful one, keep reading.

What you will be doing

Running sessions

• Running safety briefings for axe throwing and the smash rooms

• Hosting escape room sessions, watching groups and knowing when to drop a hint

• Keeping three or four activities running at once and every group on time

• Check ins, bookings, phone and email

Keeping the place running

• Resetting rooms and props between sessions, and fixing them when they break

• Loading and unloading heavy boxes of crockery for the smash rooms

• Lifting and fitting replacement timber boards on the axe throwing lanes

• Keeping the venue clean and safe

What we are after

• Someone who genuinely enjoys watching other people have a good time

• Confident running a briefing and hyping up a group of strangers

• Handy with basic tools. Drills, screws, working out why something has stopped working. We do our own maintenance here.

• Can hold four things in your head at once without losing the plot

• Comfortable on your feet for a full shift and with regular heavy lifting

• Reliable, because on most shifts there is nobody else here

• 18 or over

No experience needed. We train you on every activity. A first aid certificate is required and we will organise and pay for it if you do not have one.

Hours

Flexible availability is essential. Regular shifts are available, but things can change at any time. Shifts can fall on any day of the week, so the broader your availability the better. Hours step up over school holidays and the Christmas period, so if that is when you want more work, it is there.
