Senior Legal Assistant

Salus Lawyers are growing, and we’re looking for an experienced Senior Legal Assistant to join our boutique plaintiff personal injury practice.

We act for injured people across workers’ compensation, transport accident, public liability, medical negligence and superannuation matters.

Our approach is simple: provide excellent legal representation while making sure our clients feel informed, supported and heard throughout their matter.

The opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to become an important part of a growing practice and work closely with our principal lawyers.

The role is currently 3 days per week, with flexibility around how the hours are structured across 3, 4 or 5 days during business hours, depending on what works best for the successful candidate and the practice.

The role is currently fully hybrid, with office attendance in Melbourne CBD increasing as the practice grows. There is also an opportunity for the role to become full-time.

What you’ll be doing

Working closely with our principal lawyers, you’ll help keep matters moving and ensure our clients receive the high level of service we pride ourselves on.

Your role will include:

• Supporting lawyers with the day-to-day management of personal injury matters.
• Answering incoming telephone calls promptly, professionally and courteously.
• Managing correspondence, emails, appointments, diaries and critical dates.
• Preparing and formatting legal correspondence and documentation.
• Liaising with clients, insurers, medical practitioners, Courts and other stakeholders.
• Requesting, organising and managing medical and other relevant records.
• Maintaining accurate electronic files, following up outstanding matters and proactively identifying what needs to happen next.
• Assisting with procedural, court and tribunal requirements.
• Contributing to the continued development of our systems and processes as the practice grows.

About you

You’ll be an experienced legal assistant who takes pride in doing things properly.

You’ll bring:

• Several years’ experience as a legal assistant, ideally in personal injury or litigation.
• Excellent organisation, attention to detail and sound judgment.
• Initiative, ownership and a practical, solutions-focused approach.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team.
• Professionalism, reliability and discretion.
• Most importantly, empathy and patience when dealing with people who may be going through a difficult time.

Personal injury experience will be highly regarded, but we’re open to candidates with strong litigation experience who demonstrate the right skills, values and attitude.
