What You'll Be Doing

• Delivering high-quality clinical care to critically ill patients across the Lyell McEwin ICU, managing a diverse and clinically challenging case mix
• Contributing to multidisciplinary ward rounds, clinical decision-making, and care planning in collaboration with nursing, allied health, and specialist teams
• Supporting junior medical staff through supervision, teaching, and on-the-ground clinical mentorship
• Participating in rostered on-call and after-hours coverage as part of a supportive and well-resourced ICU team

What You Bring

• Current registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) with no restrictions on practice
• Fellowship or advanced training in Intensive Care Medicine (FCICM or equivalent), or demonstrable progress toward fellowship
• Proven clinical experience managing complex, critically ill adult patients in an accredited ICU setting
• Strong commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice within a SA Health public hospital environment
• Effective communication and collaboration skills suited to a high-pressure, team-based clinical environment
• Eligibility to work in Australia for the duration of the contract period through to 1 February 2030

As per the SA Health Salaried Medical Officers Enterprise Agreement 2025, the total term of employment with SA Health will be 3 years. Rotations following the initial 12 month allocation as Medical Practitioner will be determined in line with your training and SA Health’s requirements. This may include transfer to other SA Health locations to perform work appropriate to classification, skills and capabilities.

To be eligible for this position, you must have a Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent, registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner with General Registration.

The Total Indicative Remuneration figure is calculated taking into account base salary, leave loading and superannuation as well as managerial allowances, professional development or any other allowances where appropriate.

In this role you will have strong interpersonal and communication skills which will enable you to successfully problem solve, resolve conflicts and negotiate, including the ability to engage in difficult conversations, whilst building and maintaining relationships. An ability to effectively manage multiple, diverse and competing priorities and demonstrated resilience within a stressful and complex environment is essential to this role.

NALHN provides a range of hospital (inpatient), outpatient, community and home-based services across multiple sites in Adelaide’s north and north-eastern suburbs, including Aboriginal health, mental health, and GP services.

Lyell McEwin Hospital – the major hospital in northern Adelaide for emergency care, complex and multi-day surgery, medicine, obstetric, paediatrics and outpatient services.

Modbury Hospital – a general hospital with emergency care, elective surgery, medicine, outpatient and sub-acute services, rehabilitation, geriatric and palliative care.

Mental Health Services – adult and older persons mental health services and statewide forensic mental health services, across hospital and community settings.

Watto Purrunna Aboriginal Primary Health Care Services – provides culturally responsive primary healthcare services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in-hospital and across four community sites.

Primary Health Care Services – including GP Plus sites at Elizabeth, Modbury and Gilles Plains.
