Under direct Supervision of the Staff Veterinarian. Performs skilled work assisting the Veterinarian during clinical operation. Duties involve examining and observing the condition of animals held in the animal care centers.
High School Diploma or equivalent and two (2) years' experience working with a veterinarian; familiar with surgical procedures, medications, sterilization and anesthesia.
Requires a minimum of six (6) months of experience in public contact work or as a kennel worker in an animal care facility.
State Certified Veterinary Technician preferred.
Requires Valid Florida Driver's License (must be maintained for duration of employment).
This position requires successful completion of the Sheriff's Office pre-employment medical certification; must be able to restrain animals.
Work performed in an animal shelter. 8-hour shifts, Monday - Friday; flexibility may be required pending operational needs.
Requires courage to work with animals that may bite, kick or scratch.
Will have contact with inmate trustees from the Brevard County Jail.
In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or manmade disaster that may threaten the area the employee will be expected to work.
Successful completion of a criminal background investigation including polygraph, reference/employment/neighborhood checks. submit to screening for illegal drug use prior to assuming position and will be subject to return to duty, post-accident and/or random and reasonable suspicion drug tests while employed with BCSO.
