Psychologist - Forensic Mental Health Services

Job Description

The Community Forensic Mental Health Service is seeking a dedicated psychologist to join our specialist team providing psychological input to individuals involved in the criminal justice system. This is a great opportunity to be part of Tasmania's only community based forensic mental health team, delivering evidence-based care, risk assessments, and professional consultation to a wide range of stakeholders.

The Role:

• Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments, including for risk (e.g. physical violence, sexual offending, stalking, etc.), psychological functioning, personality, and cognitive abilities.
\n
• Provide court-ordered psychological reports and expert opinions
\n
• Deliver consultation and support to broader multidisciplinary mental health services and justice partners.
\n
• Work collaboratively with a skilled and supportive statewide team.
\n

We're looking for a motivated and skilled psychologist who:

\n

You will need

\n

\n
• High level demonstrated knowledge of contemporary clinical psychological practice especially as they relate within a forensic setting.
\n
• Has experience in evidence-based risk assessments, working with complex risk presentations, and intervention treatment models with complex populations (e.g., CBT, DBT, Schema, EMDR)
\n
• Holds clinical or forensic endorsement (preferred but not required)
\n
• Has strong assessment, formulation, and report writing skills.
\n
• Enjoys working in multidisciplinary teams and values professional collaboration.
\n
• High level consultation, liaison and negotiation skills including experience in developing collaborative working relationships with other service providers to ensure best client outcome.

Details of appointment

\n

Permanent full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

\n

*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

\n

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

• Intrastate travel may be required

\n

$117,272 to $126,182 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

\n

\n
• Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement No. 2 of 2025.
\n

\n

Salary Packaging

\n

You'll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

• Please note that access to salaries beyond $123,487 is subject to qualifications and/or application to the personal upgrade scheme
\n

\n

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

\n
• Professional Development Allowance of up to $1200 per annum, paid on a fortnightly, pro rata basis.
\n
• Correctional Allowance of 6.5%
\n

• Tertiary qualification/program of study approved by the Psychology Board of Australia
\n
• Registered with the Psychology Board of Australia
\n
• Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration
\n

• Current Driver's Licence
\n
• Endorsed with the Psychology Board of Australia in the approved areas of Forensic and/or Clinical Psychology
