The HPLSWomen’sServiceis a gendered service that provides specialistassistance to women, trans and gender diverse people who are atrisk of being evicted, homeless, and/or facing other barriers to accessing and maintaining safe and stable housing.

\n

Reporting to theManagingSolicitor, theCriminalSolicitor will providecriminallawadviceand representationto women, particularly those who are victims survivors of domestic and family violence or sexual assault. Additionally, you will:

\n

\n
• advise and appear on behalf ofclients intheLocalCourt and the District court in relation to criminal matters.
\n
• advise and appear on behalf of HPLS Women’sService in relation toApprehended Domestic Violence orders.
\n
• contribute to the work of HPLS in responding to systemic issues for women experiencing homelessness.
\n

\n

The ideal candidate will have an understanding of legal issues and barriers facing women who are victimsurvivorsof domestic and family violence or sexual assault and/or women experiencing homelessness. You will also have:

\n

\n
• at least 5 years’ post-admission experience.
\n
• sound interpersonal skills and experience developing relationships with clients and stakeholders.
\n
• capacity to conduct outreachto womenin the community, including in non-legal settings,toprovideaccurateandappropriate legalassistance.
\n
