Senior Information Access Officer

Corporate Information Services are seeking to establish a pool of Senior Information Access Officers for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during 2026 and up to the end of August 2027. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

The Corporate Information Services (CIS) Branch works to improve information quality, accessibility, reliability and security to support departmental business and is responsible for the provision of records management, system administration, Freedom of Information (FOI) and legal information disclosure and Library services.

The Role

Senior Information Access Officers provide support and advice on information release, including direct release requests and formal applications made under the Freedom of Information Act 1992 (FOI Act). They coordinate response to summons and subpoenas, Orders to Produce, and all other orders for the production of records and documents.

Within this role suitable candidates will consult with applicants, third parties, Department staff and other government agencies in relation to information disclosure matters, including direct release of information, applications made under the FOI Act, and production of court documents. A key responsibility of this role is to interpret relevant legislation to determine possible access and release of information, including interpretations for case histories and precedents, and requests from the public, external stakeholders, Departmental staff, and schools.

Eligibility

• be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
• consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit before you start.
