Assistant Financial Accountant

This role is offered as a 6-month fixed-term contract with the possibility of extension. The position also offers a hybrid working arrangement, with the flexibility to work two days per week from the office and three days from home.

The Role

Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Assistant Financial Accountant plays a key role in supporting the financial reporting obligations of Aruma's legal entities. Working closely with internal stakeholders and external partners, including government agencies, auditors, and the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), you will help establish and maintain robust financial processes that ensure compliance, accuracy, and efficiency.

In this role, you will contribute to the timely preparation of statutory, financial, and management reporting, while supporting month-end and year-end activities across the organisation. You will drive continuous improvement initiatives, maintain strong financial controls, and ensure financial information is delivered accurately and on time to support informed decision-making and the ongoing success of the Aruma Group.

A day in the life of an Assistant Financial Accountant…

• Business Reporting, Documentation & Administration:
• Reconcile bank accounts and maintain accurate financial ledgers.
• Prepare daily/weekly cashflow reports.
• Handle month-end accruals and prepayments.
• Manage corporate credit cards and handle account inquiries.
• Assist with payroll and Direct Debit processes.
• Aid in preparing and filing monthly BAS statements.
• Support Senior Finance Accountant with Fringe Benefits Tax return.
• Maintain government funds register and assist in monitoring fund utilization.
• Prepare balance sheet reconciliations promptly.
• Assist in internal and external audits.
• Contribute to developing financial policies and procedures.
• Aid in completing annual Statutory Accounts accurately and on time.
• Perform other duties as directed by the Finance Manager.

Skills and experience which will make you standout…

• Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting, along with a CA or CPA professional qualification.
• At least 2 years of experience in a Big Four or medium-sized accounting firm, large corporate, or not-for-profit organization.
• Proficiency in preparing statutory financial statements according to Australian Accounting Standards.
• Experience in establishing internal controls and building stakeholder relationships.
• Capability to adjust communication style to suit different individuals.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Familiarity with Great Plains ERP system, Microsoft Dynamics 365, and Power BI.
• Experience in implementing new ERP systems.
• Knowledge of the disability sector and NDIS funding would be advantageous.
