About the Role

You’ll be working closely with the Publisher to lead the editorial agenda and growth strategy for The Senior, Australia’s oldest and largest media brand dedicated to the over-55s market. As an ambitious editorial lead, you will drive digital, social, newsletter, video, and print publishing while managing a high-performing team. This role has opened up to steer the brand through its next phase of audience, product, and commercial expansion. This is a hands-on role that offers both independence and collaboration, with space to grow your skills and career.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Set and deliver a contemporary, distinctive editorial vision for Australians aged 55+ across digital, social, newsletter, video, and print platforms.
• Lead the daily newsroom agenda, originating original news, useful service journalism, investigations, and repeatable content franchises.
• Commission, edit, and publish accurate journalism with sharp headlines, strong editorial judgement, and rigorous adherence to legal standards.
• Lead, coach, and develop the editorial team and external contributors, managing workflows and fostering a collaborative newsroom environment.
• Use audience analytics, search trends, and performance data to optimize content reach, engagement, and newsletter growth.
• Collaborate productively with commercial, sales, and product teams on market opportunities while strictly safeguarding editorial independence.

What You’ll Bring

• Proven Editorial Leadership (Essential): Strong news judgement, excellent writing and editing skills, and a track record of originating audience-relevant editorial ideas.
• Team & Production Management (Essential): Demonstrated experience managing an editorial team, commissioning contributors, and delivering quality print and digital products to strict deadlines.
• Multi-Platform Digital Capability (Essential): Solid digital publishing expertise across search, social, newsletters, video, and audience analytics tools alongside sound print knowledge.
• Commercial Acumen & Stakeholder Skills (Essential): Outstanding communication and planning skills with the ability to collaborate with commercial teams while maintaining editorial standards.
• Audience Understanding (Essential): An informed, contemporary understanding of the interests, decisions, and concerns of Australians aged 55+.
• Brand Growth Experience (Desirable): Experience leading a national multi-platform news brand through growth, and/or background in video, newsletter strategy and audience products.
