ME Medical Recruitment is recruiting for a full time Geriatrician.



This is a regional location two hours drive from Melbourne and is a sub-regional health service and the major provider of health and aged care services in the Wellington Shire. We are located in the City of Sale which is 215 km east of Melbourne. The City is an ideal access point for the magnificent Gippsland Lakes 90 Mile Beach and the Victorian Alps.

This is a major provider of acute aged care and community health services for the Shire and surrounding regions serving a population of more than 42000 people.

Our Medical Services Division includes General Medicine Geriatric Medicine Cardiology Intensive Care Emergency Medicine Respiratory and Sleep Medicine Oncology and Renal Services. The Opportunity

As Consultant Geriatrician youll provide specialist clinical leadership across Geriatric Medicine while contributing to General Medicine and supporting rehabilitation subacute and community-based services.

This is a highly rewarding role where youll work closely with fellow Physicians nursing and allied health teams to deliver comprehensive person-centred care that promotes independence healthy ageing and coordinated patient journeys.

Your work will include:

  • Comprehensive geriatric assessment and inpatient management

  • Acute and subacute ward rounds

  • Rehabilitation in the Home and Better at Home services

  • Community Hospital patient reviews

  • Specialist outpatient clinics

  • Clinical leadership within multidisciplinary teams

  • Teaching and supervision of junior medical staff and trainees

  • Quality improvement clinical governance and service development

About You

You will bring:

  • Current registration (or eligibility for registration) with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA)

  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in Geriatric Medicine or equivalent qualifications recognised by the RACP

  • Applicants assessed by the RACP as substantially or partially comparable including those suitable for Area of Need appointments are encouraged to apply

  • Experience in Geriatric and General Medicine within an acute hospital environment

  • A commitment to multidisciplinary patient-centred care

  • Strong communication leadership and teaching skills

  • A collaborative approach and passion for improving services for older Australians

Responsibilities

* Provide thorough geriatric assessments and manage inpatient cases with a dedicated focus on person-centered care.

* Execute acute and subacute ward rounds to guarantee superior patient management standards.

* Supervise rehabilitation programs including Home-based and Better at Home services.

* Conduct clinical evaluations for patients attending the Community Hospital.

* Lead specialized outpatient clinics designed to deliver targeted care for older adults.

* Offer clinical leadership and guidance to multidisciplinary teams.

* Mentor and supervise junior medical staff and trainees through structured teaching and supervision initiatives.

* Spearhead quality improvement projects clinical governance frameworks and service development strategies.

* Partner with general medicine and allied health professionals to ensure seamless patient care pathways.

* Contribute to the strategic planning and expansion of Geriatric Medicine services within the organization.


Requirements

* Maintain current registration or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA).

* Hold a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in Geriatric Medicine or possess equivalent qualifications recognized by the RACP.

* Applicants evaluated by the RACP as substantially or partially comparable including those suitable for Area of Need appointments are encouraged to apply.
