The Project:

Sydney Metro West is a transformational 24 km underground railway connecting Sydney CBD to Parramatta, with stations at Westmead, Parramatta, Sydney Olympic Park, North Strathfield, Burwood North, Five Dock, The Bays, Pyrmont and Hunter Street.

The Linewide package connects the entire system, delivering the critical rail infrastructure and technology that bring the metro network to life.

Project offices are located across several Sydney locations including the CBD, Clyde, Rosehill, The Bays and Burwood North.

The Role:

John Holland is seeking a motivated Systems Engineer to support the delivery of the Sydney Metro West Linewide Project through the application of systems engineering principles, requirements management, and verification and validation (V&V) processes.

Working within the Systems Engineering, Safety & Systems Assurance team, you will assist in maintaining requirements traceability, managing compliance evidence, supporting assurance activities, and coordinating verification activities across a complex rail systems environment. This role provides an excellent opportunity to develop practical systems engineering experience on one of Australia's largest transport infrastructure projects while working alongside experienced rail and systems engineering professionals.

Key Repsonsibilities:

Requirements Management

• Support the capture, analysis and management of project requirements within requirements management tools.
• Maintain requirements traceability between contractual, stakeholder, system, design, test and acceptance artefacts.
• Assist with the preparation and maintenance of Requirements Verification Traceability Matrices (RVTMs).
• Monitor requirements verification status and assist in identifying gaps, inconsistencies and compliance issues.
• Support requirements reviews, workshops and baseline management activities.
• Assist with the assessment and implementation of approved requirements changes.

Verification & Validation

• Support the planning and coordination of verification and validation activities throughout project delivery.
• Collect, review and organise compliance evidence from engineering, construction and testing teams.
• Assist in preparing verification reports, compliance summaries and assurance documentation.
• Support testing and commissioning activities by ensuring verification requirements are appropriately documented and tracked.
• Maintain verification records and evidence registers to support project acceptance and assurance milestones.
• Assist in the preparation of project acceptance submissions and evidence packs.
• Apply systems engineering processes and procedures in accordance with project and organisational requirements.
• Support interface management activities by identifying and tracking requirements associated with key project interfaces.
• Assist with configuration management and change control activities relating to requirements and verification evidence.
• Contribute to technical reviews, engineering workshops and governance meetings.
• Maintain accurate project records and systems engineering documentation.

Stakeholder Coordination

• Work collaboratively with design consultants, construction teams, testing and commissioning personnel, and engineering and assurance teams.
• Support communication and coordination between engineering disciplines to facilitate requirements compliance.
• Prepare reports and presentations to communicate requirements and verification status.
• Build effective working relationships with project stakeholders.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Engineering (Systems, Electrical, Mechatronics, Software, Telecommunications or related discipline).
• Exposure to requirements management, systems assurance, testing or verification activities.
• Up to 5 years' engineering experience within rail, transport, infrastructure, defence or other complex engineering environments.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
• Experience using requirements management tools such as IBM DOORS, Relatics or similar platforms.
• Familiarity with rail engineering, transport infrastructure or major projects.
• Knowledge of ISO/IEC 15288 systems engineering principles.
• Understanding of systems assurance, testing and commissioning processes.
