Job Description
\n
A profitable, global technology company is entering its next phase of growth — and investing seriously in engineering leadership to get there. We're looking for a hands-on Senior Tech Lead / Engineering Manager to own architecture and delivery for a core product squad, act as a trusted right hand to the Head of Engineering, and set the standard for agentic AI-native development across the wider engineering team.
\n
This isn't a typical leadership role. You'll be hands-on enough to shape technical direction and review code, but your influence won't stop at your own squad — you'll help govern how AI tooling is adopted org-wide, mentor engineers at every level, and be a genuine thought leader on how modern engineering teams should build and ship.
What you'll do \n
- \n
- Own architecture, technical design, and delivery for your squad, writing RFCs/ADRs and leading incident response when things break \n
- Lead the adoption of agentic AI development practices — not as a tool user, but as a practitioner shaping how the team works with AI agents, spec-driven development, and AI-assisted code review \n
- Coach and grow engineers at all levels, raising the quality bar through design reviews and proactive standards \n
- Partner closely with product and design to translate technical tradeoffs into business outcomes \n
- Act as a trusted deputy to the Head of Engineering in cross-functional forums \n
What you'll bring \n
- \n
- Strong hands-on Node.js/TypeScript background in production environments \n
- Real experience shipping agentic AI development workflows and the governance around them — not just experimenting \n
- Proven leadership of cross-functional, multi-team delivery, with senior stakeholders kept informed without being chased \n
- Experience leading technical design (RFCs, ADRs, architectural reviews) in an agile product team \n
- A genuine coaching mindset — you get energy from growing the people around you \n
- Nice to have: React/Next.js, GraphQL, AWS, exposure to compliance frameworks like SOC2/PCI DSS \n
What's on offer \n
- \n
- Hybrid working (2 days/week from a great Melbourne CBD office), flexible hours, and a team that values outcomes over optics \n
- Real influence from day one, with a clear path to Staff/Principal Engineer \n
- Wellbeing leave, paid parental leave, EAP, and leadership development support \n
\n
This role is based in Melbourne CBD and requires 2 days week in office. To be considered for position, applicants must have full working rights and be based in (or willing to relocate to) Melbourne.
