Tour Guide – Newcastle & Hunter Cruise Season \n
Dave’s Travel Group is looking for more good people to join our Newcastle and Hunter Valley team for the upcoming cruise season.
\n
We run tours for visitors arriving into Newcastle — everything from walking, food and sightseeing tours around the city through to full-day Hunter Valley wine tours.
\n
We’re looking for confident, engaging guides who are comfortable talking to groups, telling a good story, reading a crowd and looking after guests.
\n
We’re particularly interested in experienced guides and people with a strong connection to Newcastle and the Hunter who can confidently lead a group, tell a story and give visitors a genuinely local experience.
\n
The work
\n
We currently have 16 cruise dates between October and April, representing around 100 guide shifts, with other work potentially available as well.
\n
Newcastle sightseeing tours
\n
Walking and history tours
\n
Newcastle food tours
\n
Hunter Valley wine tours
\n
Occasional pub tours
\n
Some guides will work across a range of tours and dates; others may suit a particular type of tour or only be available for certain cruise days.
\n
For strong guides, there are also opportunities to work in our other cruise regions, including Sydney, Hobart and Melbourne.
\n
A driver’s licence is useful, and passenger transport/P2P accreditation is an advantage, but neither is essential for all guiding work.
\n
Becoming a Dave
\n
Before guiding paid tours, new guides go through our Aspiring Dave process. Allow roughly 8–10 hours initially, depending on your experience and what you already know.
\n
That includes familiarisation, self-directed learning, practical training/mock touring and a short assessment before you're signed off.
\n
Our first Newcastle training opportunities are 1, 2 and 3 October , with our first cruise arriving 8 October . There will be further training opportunities throughout the season.
