Sutherland Shire Council is seeking a strategic and technically accomplished Senior Stormwater Engineer to lead the long-term planning and asset management of a diverse and critical stormwater infrastructure portfolio.

The Opportunity

\n

Reporting to the Coordinator Asset Management and Waterways, you will provide specialist engineering and asset management expertise to support the long-term sustainability, performance and resilience of Council's stormwater and flood-related infrastructure assets.

\n

You'll lead the development and implementation of asset management strategies, capital investment programs and lifecycle planning initiatives while providing expert technical advice across a broad range of stormwater and flood management matters.

\n

Your work will directly inform how Council plans, prioritises and invests in critical infrastructure assets worth millions of dollars.

\n

Key responsibilities include:

\n

• Developing and implementing stormwater asset management strategies, policies and plans.
\n
• Leading lifecycle planning, scenario modelling and long-term investment forecasting.
\n
• Identifying opportunities to improve asset performance, resilience and service outcomes.
\n
• Preparing annual and multi-year capital works and maintenance programs.
\n
• Initiating and scoping infrastructure projects, including business case development and budget estimation.
\n
• Managing consultants and contractors to deliver specialist projects and studies.
\n
• Maintaining and enhancing Council's asset management systems and practices.
\n
• Facilitating stakeholder engagement, project control groups and cross-functional collaboration.
\n
• Providing expert technical advice relating to stormwater and flood engineering.
\n
• Supporting continuous improvement and innovation across Council's asset management framework.
\n

About You

\n

We're looking for a confident engineering professional who combines strong technical expertise with strategic thinking and stakeholder influence.

\n

You will bring:

\n

Essential

\n

\n
• Degree qualifications in Engineering or a related discipline.
\n
• Current Driver Licence.
\n
• Demonstrated experience in stormwater, flood, civil infrastructure or asset management environments.
\n
• Experience managing infrastructure asset portfolios and long-term planning programs.
\n
• Strong analytical capability and the ability to translate technical information into strategic recommendations.
\n
• Proven experience preparing technical reports, specifications, tender documentation, grant submissions and business cases.
\n
• Experience managing consultants, contractors and multidisciplinary stakeholders.
\n
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
\n

Highly Regarded

\n

\n
• Postgraduate qualifications in Stormwater Engineering, Asset Management, Project Management, Business Administration or a related field.
\n
• Knowledge of local government infrastructure planning and asset management frameworks.
\n
• Experience with Asset Management Information Systems.
\n
• Understanding of Integrated Planning and Reporting requirements and the Local Government Act 1993.
\n

• Package: $111,776 to $121,051 gross p.a. plus 12% superannuation.
\n
• Hours of work: Working 35 hours per week. You will have the option of a 19-day month with Council's ADO system (Accrued Day Off).
\n
