The Rockhampton Grammar School is seeking a Coordinator of Rockhampton English Language Academy (RELA) to commence in 2027 on a full-time basis.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced EALD educator and leader who is passionate about high-quality language teaching, academic preparation, and inspiring international students to achieve outstanding learning outcomes.
The Rockhampton Grammar School was founded in 1881 and is an independent co-educational day and boarding school, educating and caring for students from Prep to Year 12, as well as the Early Learning Years. The School is the largest independent boarding school in Queensland and the second largest co-educational boarding school in Australia. It is a leading school in regional Queensland and one of the foremost schools in regional Australia. The Rockhampton Grammar School has achieved great success in the academic, cultural, sporting and vocational fields over the past 145 years. The School has a total enrolment of over 1,500 (Prep to Year 12) students who are exposed to our broad curriculum, giving effect to our commitment to Grow in Character and Scholarship.
As Coordinator of RELA, you will coordinate and deliver the Rockhampton English Language Academy (RELA) programme, including the development, implementation and teaching of its English language curriculum
POSITION TITLE: Coordinator of Rockhampton English Language Academy
DEPARTMENT: Secondary
REPORTS TO: Head of Secondary School (Academics)
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Coordinator of Rockhampton English Language Academy (RELA) is expected to:
Coordinate the day-to-day curriculum delivery, management and administration of RELA;
Be responsible for day-to-day operations of RELA;
Undertake the academic delivery of the School’s High School Preparation programme;
Design and implement ELICOS and High School Preparation curriculum and other ELICOS programmes;
Provide termly reports on student progress and maintain regular communication with parents/guardians, Heads of Year and the Heads of Secondary regarding student progress and areas of concern;
Establish and review students' learning goals/outcomes and modify curriculum programmes accordingly;
Create a positive learning environment that enhances student learning;
Communicate with parents and the International Student Coordinator about student learning and progress and assist with intervention strategies if required;
Ensure compliance with RELA and School policies, and updating these when required in consultation with the Registrar;
Work closely with the Registrar, Marketing, Student Services and Finance units to achieve RELA objectives;
Maintain compliance with the ESOS Act, National Code and National ELICOS Standards;
Complete and coordinate NEAS audits and accreditation processes as required;
Attend professional development workshops and stay up to date with best practices in EALD education.
Teach other classes/subjects/undertake other duties as requested by the Head of Secondary School (Academics).
As a Teacher, you are expected to:
Design and implement curriculum programmes that embrace School's Learning Framework;
Create an engaging learning experience and positive classroom environment that enhances student learning, engagement, growth and achievement;
Establish and review students' learning goals/outcomes and modify curriculum programmes accordingly;
Continuously reflect on teaching practices and fully participates in the School's Personal Learning Programme;
Build relationships and share teaching insights with colleagues in order to coordinate activities for students;
Demonstrate expertise in your teaching discipline and a commitment to contemporary teaching practice;
Communicate with parents about student learning;
Demonstrate professionalism and a commitment to professional development;
Contribute to the School and wider community through involvement in co-curricular activities;
Maintain accurate records and meet deadlines.

REQUIRED LICENCES/CERTIFICATES
Registration with Queensland College of Teachers;
Post-graduate qualifications in TESOL (please refer to the requirements at resources/career-advice/#neas-teacher-qualifications ;

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
The successful applicant will be subject to a “Working with Children Check and Criminal Records Check” where applicable. The School undertakes several screening processes to ensure the appropriate protection of children and young people in its care. This includes reference checks, identity checks qualification checks and professional registration checks.
