ACEREZ is a consortium, comprised of ACCIONA, COBRA and Endeavour Energy which has been appointed Network Operator by EnergyCo to design, deliver, operate and maintain the transmission line network for the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (CWO REZ).
The new transmission infrastructure, which will combine high-capacity transmission lines, energy hubs and related infrastructure, will enable generators such as solar and wind farms and energy storage providers in the CWO REZ to connect to the electricity grid, providing a reliable supply of clean, affordable electricity for households and businesses across NSW while helping to meet the state's newly legislatedNet Zerotargets.
The Opportunity
The Power System Engineer (Power System Studies) will be responsible for preparing, analysing and reporting on power system network studies for the integration of wind and solar generation and battery projects to the planned renewable energy zone. This role will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of power engineers to integrate a large amount of generation and BESS projects to the planned REZ network and the NEM. This includes generator performance assessment, control integration, network studies and a range of complex power system considerations.
THIS ROLE CAN BE BASED AT EITHER OUR SYDNEY OR MELBOURNE OFFICES.
Key Responsibilities
- Integrate and assess dynamic generator or synchronous machine models in either PSS/E or PSCAD
- Run power system studies, analyse and document results
- Fault find and problem solve elements within network models and software
- Prepare technical reports as required
- Undertake and report on the assessment of generators to meet the performance standards
- Control systems tuning for inverter-based generation and synchronous machines
- Understand the generator performance standards and how to assess them
- Knowledge of power system stability characteristics, how to study and identify them
- Ability to conduct system performance analysis and simulations using tools such as PSS/E and PSCAD.
- Technical report writing skills
- Ability to collaborate within the engineering team to deliver results, reports and analysis in a timely manner.
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or higher), majoring in Power and Control
- 5 years or more experience with control integration and compliance assessment of synchronous machines, and renewable projects (including Wind, Solar and BESS).Expected to be able to provide technical guidance and review work of other engineers.
- Demonstrated experience working on and performing generator connection studies in PSS/E and PSCAD for a range of renewable and synchronous projects.
- Understanding of the NER and how it applies to generation connection
- Demonstrated experience in implementing and using automation tools in python for PSS/E and PSCAD
- Understanding or experience with NEM studies in PSS/E
- Understanding the importance of wider network studies and familiarity with power system dynamics, stability and control.
