Office of Public Prosecutions VIC – Melbourne VIC

The Health, Safety and Wellbeing Lead independently drives stronger OHS, workers’ compensation and injury management outcomes across the OPP. Reporting to the Manager, Safety and Wellbeing for strategic leadership, governance and integration, the role anticipates risk, identifies opportunities and delivers practical improvements for the distinct demands of a significant criminal law practice.

Health, Safety & Wellbeing Lead. Full time, ongoing position. Applications close on 11:59pm Sunday 18 October 2026.

About the role:

Shape how the OPP protects its people across offices, courts, partner-managed sites and regional operations. You will anticipate the risks and pressures of our criminal law practice, set priorities and lead improvements from insight to implementation. With substantial autonomy, you will own the performance and continuous improvement of the OHS management system, workers' compensation and injury management. The Manager, Safety and Wellbeing provides strategic leadership, governance and organisational integration.

Your Key Responsibilities

As the Health, Safety & Wellbeing Lead, you will:

  • Own and strengthen the OPP's OHS management system, turning legal obligations and operational insight into controls that prevent harm.
  • Anticipate emerging risks across criminal law practice, court environments, corporate functions and regional operations, and lead solutions through to sustained implementation.
  • Use assurance, incident, hazard, claims and workforce data to target systemic issues, test controls and demonstrate measurable improvement.
  • Lead workers' compensation claims from notification to resolution, driving timely, fair outcomes and strong stakeholder performance.
  • Drive early intervention and injury management strategies that enable safe, durable returns to work and reduce the impact of injury.

About you:

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • A tertiary qualification in occupational health and safety, risk management, human resources or a related discipline.
  • A strong record of improving OHS management systems and controls in complex or regulated environments.
  • The judgement and initiative to anticipate needs, set priorities and deliver with limited direction.
  • Proven expertise in workers' compensation and injury management, including complex claims, early intervention and sustainable return to work.
  • Sound knowledge of Victorian OHS and workers' compensation requirements, with the insight and influence to address emerging risks in a unique criminal law practice.
