About the role
TheSenior Service Designerwill play akey role inunderstanding, designing and improvingcomplex services andsystems within theearly childhood educationandcare sector. Therole will workacross multidisciplinaryteams and witha diverse rangeof stakeholders toidentify systemic challenges, uncover opportunitiesfor improvement, andtranslate complex researchandservice insights intopractical, evidence-basedsolutions.
The role willalsohelp strengthen designcapability across theorganisation by demonstratingand role-modellinghuman-centred designpractices, coachingcolleagues and enablingteams to adopteffective design andagile ways ofworking. Strong proficiencywithMicrosoft Planner andMirowill be importantto supporting theteam's collaborative planning, deliveryand workshop practices.

About you -
The ideal candidateis an experiencedSenior Service Designerwith a strongtrack record ofworking within complexservice, government orsimilarly structured environments. They are comfortablenavigating ambiguity, understandinginterconnected systemsand translating complexproblems into clear, practical opportunitiesfor improvement.
The candidate will bring:
- Strong service designexpertise , with practical experienceapplying human-centreddesign methodologies acrosscomplex services andsystems.
- Excellent research andevaluation capability , including planning andconducting user research, applying qualitative researchmethods, synthesising findingsand using appropriateevaluationframeworks to generatemeaningful insights.
- Systems thinking andanalytical skills , with the abilityto identify challenges, dependencies, servicegaps and opportunitiesand translate theminto actionable recommendations.
- Strong communication andstorytelling skills , particularly the abilityto turn complexresearch and system-level findings intoconcise reports, presentationsand recommendationsfor senior executivesand decision-makers.
- Stakeholder engagement andfacilitation skills , with the abilityto bring togetherdiverse stakeholders, buildtrust and createproductive collaborationacross professional disciplinesand organisational boundaries.
- Experience working withmultidisciplinary teams , helping teams aligndesign, strategy anddelivery activities andensuring that userneeds remain centralto decision-making.
- Experience mentoring and supporting less experienced service designers, providing direction, constructive feedback and guidance to deliver high-quality service design outcomes.
- An interest orbackground in education , ideally with anunderstanding ofearly childhood educationand care, itsusers, operating environmentand broader policyand service ecosystem.
- Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
Essential requirements of the role
- Degree qualification in a related field and/or equivalent significant experience.
- Current and valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) Clearance for paid employment.
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education .
