St James College is seeking a passionate and capable Outdoor Recreation Teacher/Trainer to deliver and assess Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation and lead safe, engaging outdoor education programs. Working across our Spring Hill campus and “Jimmies on the Dam” at Maroon Dam, you will help students build resilience, teamwork, independence and a meaningful connection with nature.

The opportunity

In this hands-on role, you will combine teaching, vocational training and assessment with camp leadership, risk management and stewardship of the College’s outdoor education facilities and equipment. You will work closely with the Health and Physical Education Faculty, the College’s RTO, Facilities Team, Business Manager and WHS and Risk Officer. The position is available on an ongoing full-time basis.

Key responsibilities

Deliver and assess Outdoor Recreation vocational training, including Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation (SIS20419) assessment camps.

Plan, organise and lead outdoor recreation classes, camps and programs for school-aged students.

Lead paddling, bushwalking and overnight camping activities safely and to a high standard.

Maintain accurate training, assessment, safety and compliance records.

Support the safe operation and maintenance of the Maroon Dam campus, facilities, watercraft, trailers and equipment.

Complete and implement risk assessments, emergency procedures and incident reporting requirements.

Help manage environmental responsibilities, including bushfire, water, weed and site-management requirements.

Order camp supplies and manage relevant budgets.

Essential qualifications and licences

Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation (SIS20419) with the required units of competency, or a higher Outdoor Recreation qualification such as Certificate IV.

Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

Paddle Australia registration as a Flatwater Guide, with Canoe and Overnight Camping endorsement.

Current Advanced First Aid and CPR.

Current Queensland College of Teachers registration or a current Working with Children blue card.

LR Driver’s Licence and Marine Licence, or willingness to obtain them.
