Our client is a leading Australian law firm with a highly regarded tax practice.
The Team \n
The Indirect Tax team acts for a broad client base, including multinational and listed companies, major developers, financial institutions and government bodies.
\n
The practice covers GST advisory and disputes, transaction structuring, M&A, property and infrastructure, and cross-border matters. The team also advises on GST risk reviews, ATO audits, rulings, voluntary disclosures and objections.
The Role \n
An excellent opportunity exists for a Senior Associate or Special Counsel to join the firm's Indirect Tax practice in Sydney.

Working closely with senior practitioners, you will:
\n
- \n
- Independently run complex GST matters, including audits, investigations and objection processes. \n
- Advise on the indirect tax implications of high-value M&A, property development and infrastructure transactions. \n
- Assist clients with transaction design and restructuring, with a focus on property and financial services. \n
- Assess indirect tax exposure and obligations arising from international and cross-border dealings. \n
- Lead ATO engagements, including ruling applications, voluntary disclosures and responses to information requests. \n
- Partner directly with senior stakeholders to identify risks and provide commercially practical solutions. \n
- Support the development of junior lawyers and play an active role in client development and broader practice initiatives. \n
Requirements \n
The ideally candidate will have 6+ years' post-admission experience in taxation law with a strong focus on indirect tax and GST.
\n
Additionally, you will have:
\n
- \n
- Experience managing complex tax matters with a high level of autonomy. \n
- Experience in transaction structuring and cross-border tax matters. \n
- Strong commercial judgement and the ability to translate complex tax issues into practical advice. \n
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. \n
- Experience supervising and developing junior lawyers. \n
- An interest in business development and building long-term client relationships. \n
