The Department of Justice and Community Safety (Youth Justice) is responsible for the statutory supervision of young people in the criminal justice system in Victoria focusing on prevention, diversion, and early intervention as the most effective and fiscally responsible ways of reducing youth crime. Youth Justice is committed to the demonstration of the Victorian Public Sector values. The values are: responsiveness, integrity, impartiality, accountability, respect, leadership and human rights. Youth justice custodial centres accommodate young people aged 12-18 years who have been remanded or sentenced by the Criminal Division of the Children's Court, and some 18-21 year olds sentenced by Adult Courts to a youth justice custodial centre
The Admissions Officer is responsible for admission processes and technology systems that support young people entering youth justice precincts, with Parkville serving as the primary admissions site. The role is responsible for accurate Client Relationship Information System (CRIS) data entry and maintaining the quality and integrity of admission records. The positions will coordinate the transfer of young people between Cherry Creek and Malmsbury Youth Justice Precincts, including admissions from courts. As an Admissions Officer, you will be required and supported to complete the fully funded and provided Certificate IV in Youth Justice as a key component of your role
The opportunity Ongoing, full-time position based at the Malmsbury Youth Justice Precinct but working flexibly across other Youth Justice Custodial Precincts (Parkville & Cherry Creek), where needed to respond to operational requirements
- Maintain a safe and secure environment for young people, staff and the community by recording movements, conducting searches and security checks and monitoring alarms
- Ensure admission processes are followed and update systems to support the safe transfer of young people between custodial precincts
- Maintain accurate CRIS records for admissions, releases, court appearances, sentences, bail and temporary leave
- Perform other duties such as young people escorts, supervising visits, managing client property and other administration duties as required
- Provide care, supervision, safety and support for young people in youth justice facilities
- Excellent administrative and data entry skills
- An understanding of the Youth Justice CRIS system would be highly regarded
- A comprehensive understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
- The ability to effectively manage the challenging behaviours of young people
- The ability to create a safe and rehabilitative environment for young people
- The ability to apply an understanding of adolescent development and the issues impacting young people
- A current employee Working with Children Check (WWCC) card is required and will need to be provided prior to commencement of employment by the applicant
- Currency will need to be maintained by the employee for the period of employment
