About The ABC

The ABC is the nation's most trusted and independent source of Australian conversations, culture and stories. With about 4,500 employees from diverse backgrounds across more than 60 locations in Australia and overseas, we are proud to create, curate and deliver high-quality content that informs, educates and entertains Australian communities.

About The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the ABC's Product & Technology team and work on our digital archiving solutions, helping develop the technology that supports how content is managed, preserved and distributed.

As a Front End Engineer, you'll be part of a cross functional team developing media management and digital archiving solutions that support content creators and enable audience experiences. You'll work on secure, high-performing and accessible platforms used across the organisation, with a strong focus on quality, scalability and sustainable engineering practices.

You'll contribute across product development, reusable front end components and complex engineering solutions, while sharing best practice and taking a user-focused approach to solving technical challenges.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Develop secure, high-performing and accessible solutions for the ABC's content management and digital archiving platforms.
  • Design and develop reusable front end components, including UI elements, layout patterns and form controls, with a focus on consistency, accessibility and maintainability.
  • Deliver high-quality code with a strong focus on efficiency, scalability, security and system sustainability while minimising technical debt.
  • Work collaboratively within a cross functional team to solve complex product and engineering challenges with a user-centric approach.
  • Keep across industry engineering best practice and share knowledge with colleagues to strengthen development practices across digital product teams.
  • Create and maintain accurate technical documentation covering designs, architecture, product specifications, testing, support and operational requirements.

What You'll Bring

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or demonstrated equivalent skills, knowledge and experience.
  • Experience developing secure, high-performance and accessible websites at scale, with the ability to write clean, efficient, testable and high-quality code.
  • Strong experience with Node.js, ES6+ and TypeScript, along with React and React development frameworks.
  • Experience with CSS, SASS and PostCSS and developing consistent, maintainable front end solutions.
  • Experience integrating with REST and/or GraphQL APIs, with exposure to API management and API test automation considered an advantage.
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills, with a methodical approach and strong attention to detail when tackling particularly complex problems.
  • Well-developed communication, planning and prioritisation skills, with the ability to share knowledge, work effectively with stakeholders and deliver to deadlines.
