Job description

Head of Operations

Working for a leading 100 person FinTech, which has grown year on year, and is looking for a Head of Operations to make sure its internal operations keep pace.

Reporting to the COO, you'll take ownership of how the business operates day to day, keeping current operations reliable while deciding where systems, processes and suppliers need to improve.

The remit covers internal IT, core business systems, security, workplace, assets and suppliers. You'll have an existing Operations Manager and external IT support, with scope to shape how the function develops.

The opportunity

You'll be responsible for:

  • identifying where systems and processes can be simplified or automated

  • leading practical adoption of AI across the business

  • reducing manual work and reliance on individual people

  • assessing suppliers and key vendor relationships

  • deciding when capability should sit internally or with specialist partners

  • setting operational priorities and building the case for investment

  • working across functional leaders to get improvements adopted

  • developing and coaching the existing Operations Manager

  • maintaining proportionate operational risk, security and continuity controls

This is not about changing everything at once. The challenge is knowing what genuinely needs replacing, what can be improved through better process or use of existing tools, and where investment will make the biggest difference.

What you'll bring

We're looking for someone who has owned a broad operational function or substantial cross-business operational remit.

Your background could be in business operations or technology operations. What matters is that you can combine systems thinking with strong commercial judgement.

  • experience setting operational priorities independently

  • evidence of meaningful process, systems or operational improvement

  • strong vendor and commercial judgement

  • enough technical understanding to challenge suppliers and assess systems

  • experience leading change across teams without relying on direct authority

  • experience developing and coaching direct reports

  • the ability to work independently in a lean environment

  • working knowledge of ISO 27001 and SOC 2

  • an understanding of operational risk and business continuity

Previous AI implementation experience would help, but isn't essential. Experience introducing useful technology or new ways of working is equally relevant.

This could suit an established Head of Operations or a senior Operations Manager ready for broader responsibility, provided you've already demonstrated commercial judgement and delivered change beyond your immediate team.
