Installation Lead – Metal Fabrication & Construction
Dusty Fabrications Pty Ltd – Queanbeyan East NSW
Dusty Fabrications is looking for an experienced fabricator/installer ready to step into a broader leadership role within a growing advanced manufacturing business.
This is not a traditional full-time construction site position. Our work spans advanced manufacturing, defence and critical infrastructure, specialist metalwork, structural steel and selected construction projects. Some weeks will involve leading installation activities on site; at other times you will be working alongside our fabrication and manufacturing team in our Queanbeyan facility.
You will take ownership of our installation function—planning work with our Project Manager, leading our people on site, ensuring crews have what they need, solving problems and making sure work is completed safely, efficiently and to the required standard.
Our current installation lead is transitioning into Project Management, providing the successful candidate with a genuine handover and the opportunity to help shape this developing leadership position.

Key responsibilities
- Lead and develop our installation team
- Plan and coordinate upcoming installation work with the Project Manager
- Take day-to-day ownership of site execution, safety, quality and productivity

About you

You will ideally bring:
- Strong hands‑on metal fabrication and installation experience
- Experience across fabricated metalwork, structural steel or similar work
- Experience leading tradespeople or small teams
- Workshop fabrication capability
- Ability to interpret fabrication and engineering drawings

A fabrication/boilermaking trade qualification would be highly regarded.
About us
Dusty Fabrications is a privately owned Queanbeyan business undergoing a significant transition from traditional metal fabrication into advanced manufacturing, production, defence and critical infrastructure work.
We operate modern manufacturing equipment, including our 6kW AMADA fibre laser, while retaining strong fabrication and installation capability. Together with our R&D sister company, PRTD, we are continuing to develop our capability in advanced manufacturing, prototyping and technology‑led production.
We are also progressing our Defence Industry Security Program (DISP) capability as we position the business for increased defence and security‑sensitive work.
Most importantly, we are building the next level of our team. As Dusty Fabrications grows, we want our people to grow with it—developing broader skills, taking greater responsibility and moving into leadership positions.
This Installation Lead position is part of that transition.
What we offer
- A genuine leadership role with room to grow
- Exposure to advanced manufacturing, defence, critical infrastructure and specialist projects
- A mix of hands‑on fabrication, manufacturing and installation
- Opportunity to help shape the role rather than simply inherit it
- Leadership and professional development
- A close-knit, practical team
- Competitive remuneration based on experience and capability
- Full‑time, ongoing employment
