Junior Foodservice & Retail Sales Representative

Food Industry Development Role | Sydney | Full Time

Nomad Distribution imports and distributes premium Spanish and specialty foods to restaurants, hotels, specialty grocers and delis throughout Australia. We also produce our own La Boqueria Spanish smallgoods and Paddock to Plate free‑range ham and bacon.

We are looking for a chef, hospitality professional or someone early in their food‑industry sales career who wants to develop into a customer‑facing commercial role.

This is a junior development position - not a senior business‑development or account‑management role. We are looking for someone with good food knowledge, the right attitude and a genuine willingness to learn the business properly.

How the role is structured

3 days in the field: Visit existing and prospective foodservice and selected retail customers across Sydney. Build relationships with chefs, owners, managers and buyers, introduce products, conduct tastings and demonstrations, and follow up opportunities.

1 day in the office: Learn the import and commercial side of the business, including product documentation, shipments, stock arrivals, customer accounts, CRM and general sales administration.

1 day with warehouse & operations: Work alongside our Warehouse Manager and team to understand receiving, storage, stock rotation, product handling, picking, dispatch and the practical side of getting the right product to the customer.

What you will be doing

• Manage and develop existing foodservice and retail customers.
• Identify and open new accounts.
• Conduct regular face‑to‑face visits, tastings and product presentations.
• Work with chefs on product selection, applications and menu opportunities.
• Follow up customer opportunities and maintain accurate CRM records.
• Learn our products in depth through structured product training and tastings.
• Work closely with sales, imports, warehouse, accounts and management.
• Provide useful feedback on customers, competitors, pricing and market activity.
• Progressively take ownership of your own customer base and territory as your knowledge and confidence grow.

About you

• A genuine interest in food and how products are used.
• Confidence dealing with chefs, owners, managers and retailers.
• Good personal organisation and communication skills.
• The ability to build relationships with different personalities.
• A practical, reliable and willing‑to‑learn attitude.
• The ability to work independently in the field and as part of a team.
• A competent understanding of food preparation and cooking.
• A current full driver’s licence and reliable transport to our office.

Previous sales experience is helpful, but not essential. Food knowledge, reliability, communication and the ability to build good customer relationships are just as important.

The opportunity

This role is designed for someone who wants to learn and grow into the position. As your product knowledge and commercial experience develop, you will progressively take greater responsibility for your own customers, territory, new products and selected supplier projects.

This is a full‑time role of approximately 37.5 hours per week.
