Job description

Horseland | Retail Leadership Team
Dandenong South, with regular travel across Victoria

Lead our Victorian store network, develop exceptional retail leaders and drive commercial growth in a business at the heart of Australia’s equestrian community.

Horseland is Australia’s largest equestrian retailer, with more than 50 stores nationwide. Our reputation is built on quality products, knowledgeable service and strong relationships with riders and horse owners.

We are seeking an experienced multi-site retail leader to lead our Victorian network. Experience with horses or strong equine knowledge is highly preferred, alongside a proven ability to deliver commercial results and develop high-performing teams.

About the role

Reporting to the General Manager Retail, you will join the Retail Leadership Team and lead sales, profitability, people development and operational performance across Victoria.

You will help shape the state strategy and turn it into clear priorities for each store. Working closely with Merchandise, Marketing, Supply Chain, Retail Operations, and HR, you will identify growth opportunities, strengthen store performance, and equip your leaders to succeed.

Based at our Dandenong South office, the role involves regular travel across the Victorian store network and occasional interstate travel.

Your responsibilities will include:

Driving commercial results: Deliver state sales, gross profit and store profitability targets, manage controllable costs and lead improvement plans for underperforming stores.

Developing store leaders: Coach Store Managers, set clear expectations, manage performance and build succession plans.

Strengthening retail operations: Improve workforce planning, labour productivity, stock availability and inventory management.

Delivering consistent standards: Lead customer service, visual merchandising, store presentation, safety and compliance across the network.

Supporting business growth: Use customer insights and trading results to guide local initiatives and support store openings, relocations and refurbishments.

Building community connections: Develop relationships with riding clubs, equestrian organisations and local groups that strengthen customer loyalty and store engagement.

About you

You understand how to lead through Store Managers, balancing clear accountability with practical support. You are commercially astute, confident making decisions and comfortable moving between strategic planning and hands‑on store coaching.

You will bring:

At least five years’ retail leadership experience, including several years leading a network of 10 or more stores across a geographically dispersed territory.

A strong record of achieving sales and profit targets, managing store profit and loss and improving business performance.

Proven experience coaching Store Managers, developing talent and managing performance.

Sound knowledge of merchandising, inventory, workforce planning and retail operations.

Strong communication skills and the ability to build trusted relationships across the business.

A current driver’s licence and willingness to travel regularly.

Experience with horses or strong equine knowledge is highly preferred. Understanding the needs of riders and horse owners will help you support our teams, connect with customers and build credibility within the equestrian community.

Experience in equestrian, country, outdoor, apparel, footwear or other specialist retail will also be highly regarded.

A significant leadership opportunity with statewide commercial responsibility.

A place on the Retail Leadership Team, reporting directly to the General Manager Retail.

The opportunity to influence business performance and develop the next generation of store leaders.

A supportive, family‑run environment guided by People, Passion and Performance.

A business with a passionate customer community and a strong connection to the equestrian industry.

  • Generous staff discounts and ongoing product and supplier training.
