University of Queensland Press Full-time (100%), permanent position Base salary will be in the range $97,268 - $104,348 + 17% super (HEW Level 6) Based at our Long Pocket location

About This Opportunity

Join University of Queensland Press (UQP), one of Australia's most respected publishing houses as a Senior Editor and help bring exceptional stories and ideas to life.

Reporting to the Managing Editor and working closely with a collaborative, inclusive and purposeful publishing team, the Senior Editor will independently manage the editorial and production lifecycle of a diverse portfolio of adult fiction, non-fiction and children's publishing titles.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a culture of excellence while working with authors, creatives and publishing professionals to create meaningful impact through books that inform, inspire and connect communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently project manage the editorial and production process for multiple book titles from manuscript to print publication.
  • Undertake complex structural editing, copy editing and manuscript assessment to maintain the highest editorial standards.
  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships with authors, freelancers, designers, proofreaders, typesetters and other publishing partners.
  • Write compelling cover copy and marketing content and collaborate with sales and marketing teams on title positioning and promotion.

About You

  • Tertiary degree in English, Journalism, Communication or a Diploma in Editing and Publishing.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience working within a trade publishing house or another relevant editorial position.
  • Experience in evaluating and editing the content, structure and format of a range of written material.
  • Strong project management skills, from first author contact through to print.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to develop strong professional relationships with authors and liaise with suppliers, including other editors, designers and proofreaders.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure to tight deadlines and within budget.
  • Exceptional time management and organisational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to project-manage multiple, competing tasks.
  • Excellent computer skills and experience working with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat and InDesign.
