Social Worker – Aboriginal Families First Initiative - 2000 Days

Support families early. Build stronger connections. Help create better outcomes for children.

Location: Singleton, NSW
Employment Type: Full-Time/Part -Time Opportunity

About the opportunity

Ungooroo Aboriginal Corporation is establishing an Aboriginal Families First Initiative - 2000 Days program to support Aboriginal women, children and families from pregnancy through to a child’s early years.

We are looking for a compassionate and experienced Social Worker to join our multidisciplinary team.

The Aboriginal Families First Initiative - 2000 Days approach recognises that early experiences can have a significant impact on a child's health, development and wellbeing. It also recognises that families may experience social, emotional, financial, housing, family or other challenges that can affect their ability to thrive.

Your role will be to work alongside families, not simply provide a service to them.

About the role

As a Social Worker, you will provide family-centred support that may include:

  • Psychosocial assessment and support
  • Supporting families experiencing social or emotional challenges
  • Identifying factors that may impact the wellbeing of parents, babies and children
  • Supporting parents and carers to build confidence and resilience
  • Providing information, advocacy and practical support
  • Supporting families to access appropriate services and community resources
  • Developing and supporting referral pathways
  • Working with families experiencing complex circumstances
  • Supporting early identification of risk and appropriate escalation
  • Working collaboratively with Midwives, Aboriginal Health Workers/Practitioners, GPs and Allied Health professionals
  • Participating in case coordination and multidisciplinary discussions
  • Supporting a trauma-informed approach to service delivery
  • Maintaining appropriate clinical and case documentation
  • Working within relevant child protection, mandatory reporting, privacy and professional requirements.

The role will focus on early intervention, prevention, connection and practical support, while recognising the strengths and existing resources within each family.

About you

You will ideally have:

  • A recognised qualification in Social Work
  • Eligibility for relevant professional membership/registration requirements
  • Experience working with children, families or communities
  • Experience in family support, child and family services, health or community services
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • An ability to build trust with families experiencing complex circumstances
  • A strengths-based and trauma-informed approach
  • A strong understanding of professional boundaries and confidentiality
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • An understanding of the importance of culturally safe practice when working with Aboriginal families.

Experience working within an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation or Aboriginal community setting will be highly regarded.

Why Ungooroo?

At Ungooroo, we believe good health is about more than what happens in a consultation room.

Our services work across health, wellbeing, community and social support, giving our teams the opportunity to work collaboratively around the needs of individuals and families.

You will be joining an Aboriginal-led organisation where we value:

  • Culture and connection
  • Family and community
  • Respectful and person-centred support
  • Early intervention
  • Collaboration
  • Practical solutions
  • Strong relationships.

Make a difference from the beginning

If you are a Social Worker who believes that supporting families early can change the trajectory for children, we would love to hear from you.

This is not an identified role, but Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.

Please submit your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your experience and what attracts you to the Aboriginal Families First Initiative - 2000 Days program.

Join Ungooroo and help us support stronger families and brighter futures.
