Job description

Lawyer - Workers Compensation (In-House)

02-10-26 Sydney / Permanent

What if your next legal move meant leaving billable hours behind?

We've partnered with a stable and growing workers compensation organisation that is looking to strengthen its legal capability and support its Senior Legal Counsel and broader claims function.

This is an opportunity for a lawyer who knows personal injury and workers compensation to take their expertise in-house, have greater influence over claims outcomes and enjoy a more sustainable working environment.

What's in it for you?

  • Step away from traditional billable-hour targets
  • Monday to Friday, standard working hours — no overtime
  • Hybrid working — 2–3 days in the Sydney CBD office
  • Work alongside and learn from an industry leader
  • Supportive, collaborative environment
  • Up to $140K base + super, depending on experience
  • Additional benefits and plenty more to uncover in a confidential conversation

What will you be doing?

You'll play an important role in supporting the legal and claims functions, including:

  • Arranging investigations and gathering evidence to support sound liability decisions and the assessment of psychological and physical workers compensation claims
  • Drafting letters of instruction and preparing evidence briefs for independent medical examiners and factual investigators
  • Supporting the Senior Legal Counsel, Technical Manager and external legal providers with internal reviews and applications relating to disputed claims

Your background and experience will include;

  • Legal qualifications and, preferably, a current practising certificate
  • Experience in personal injury or workers compensation law, ideally on the defendant side
  • Strong knowledge of NSW workers compensation legislation and applicable case law
  • An understanding of the workers compensation dispute resolution process and Commission proceedings
  • Experience within a workers compensation self-insurance environment will be highly regarded

We are also interested in speaking with qualified lawyers currently working in claims management looking to move across to the legal team...

There's a lot more information to share...

If you're a workers compensation or personal injury lawyer who has ever wondered "What would life look like if I moved in-house?" this could be worth a conversation.

These opportunities don't come along often, and we have plenty more information to share.
