Travel Consultant | Helloworld Travel Mackay & Mt Pleasant
Great travel consultants do more than book holidays. They make people feel confident about exploring the world.
At Helloworld Travel Mackay, we’re looking for an experienced Travel Consultant who loves creating memorable holidays, building genuine client relationships and delivering the kind of personal service that keeps customers coming back.
You’ll join an established, successful Mackay travel business with a strong local reputation, an experienced team and a genuine commitment to developing great travel professionals.
If you love the combination of travel, people and sales, this could be your next adventure.
About Helloworld Travel Mackay
Our story in Mackay began in 1986, and almost four decades later we remain passionate about helping our customers experience the world.
Today, our business operates across multiple locations and has been recognised nationally within the Helloworld network, including national awards.
But what matters most to us is what happens every day in our stores.
We want our customers to feel that they have a trusted travel professional beside them — someone who listens, understands what matters to them and takes care of the details.
Our team culture is built around five values:
Success. Discovery. Positivity. Communication. Wellbeing.
We want people to enjoy coming to work, be proud of what they achieve and continue developing throughout their travel career.
The opportunity
As a Travel Consultant, you’ll manage the complete customer journey — from that first exciting conversation about where they want to go through to the moment they depart.
You’ll combine destination knowledge, sales ability, attention to detail and genuine customer care to create holidays your clients will remember for years.
You will:
- Build tailored domestic and international travel itineraries.
- Recommend flights, accommodation, cruise, touring and travel experiences.
- Match customers with products that suit their needs, budget and travel style.
- Manage bookings from initial enquiry through to final documentation.
- Provide accurate advice around fares, supplier conditions and travel requirements.
- Build strong relationships that generate repeat business and referrals.
- Follow up enquiries and confidently convert opportunities into bookings.
- Work towards individual and team sales and customer-service goals.
- Maintain accurate customer, booking and payment records.
- Support customers when plans change and help find the best possible solution.
About you
You’re someone who genuinely enjoys helping people.
You understand that being a great travel consultant requires much more than loving travel — it takes sales ability, curiosity, organisation, resilience and exceptional attention to detail.
You’ll ideally bring:
- Previous experience as a retail or leisure Travel Consultant.
- Confidence creating complete domestic and international itineraries.
- Experience managing customer files from enquiry through to travel.
- Strong sales and customer-service capability.
- Experience using travel booking systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Strong organisation and attention to detail.
- Confidence managing multiple customers and bookings at once.
- A willingness to learn about new destinations, products and suppliers.
- A positive approach to sales goals, feedback and professional development.
Most importantly, you’ll enjoy building relationships.
We want our customers to feel comfortable calling you and saying:
“We’re thinking about our next holiday — what do you recommend?”
That trusted relationship is what great travel consulting is all about.
What we offer
A competitive salary package
You will receive a competitive salary package, depending on experience and capability, with performance incentive opportunities.
We believe great performance should be recognised and rewarded.
Travel industry benefits
One of the best parts of working in travel is experiencing the product yourself.
Depending on availability and eligibility, opportunities may include:
- Industry travel discounts.
- Supplier offers and benefits.
- Travel vouchers and rewards.
- Familiarisation trips and educationals.
- Supplier events and destination training.
- Industry conferences and networking opportunities.
Because the more of the world you experience, the better you can sell it.
Professional development
We don’t believe development stops once you become an experienced consultant.
Every team member has opportunities to continue building their skills through:
- Individual development planning.
- Helloworld Training Academy.
- Supplier and destination training.
- Airfare and booking-system development.
- Sales and customer-service coaching.
- Webinars and industry training.
- Mentoring and support from experienced travel professionals.
Whether you want to become an exceptional senior consultant, develop a specialty or eventually move into leadership, we want to help you keep progressing.
A team that wants you to succeed
Travel consulting can be demanding.
There are complicated itineraries, changing airline schedules, urgent customer requests and plenty of moving parts.
That’s why the people around you matter.
You’ll work alongside experienced travel professionals who share knowledge, help each other solve problems and celebrate success together.
Our culture is professional, positive and supportive — with plenty of personality along the way.
An established local business
You’ll be joining a business that has been part of the Mackay travel community since 1986.
That means you’re not starting from scratch.
You’ll have the opportunity to work with an established customer base while continuing to build your own loyal following through exceptional service, referrals and repeat business.
What success looks like
For us, success isn’t simply the number of bookings you make.
A successful Travel Consultant:
- Builds loyal customers who return year after year.
- Converts enquiries confidently without making customers feel pressured.
- Creates accurate, thoughtful and well-planned itineraries.
- Takes ownership of their customer files.
- Achieves strong sales results.
- Continues learning.
- Supports their teammates.
- Makes customers feel genuinely looked after.
We want consultants who are proud of both what they sell and how they sell it.
The practical stuff
This is a full-time, five-day rostered position based in our Mackay store with some flexibility for the right candidate.
The roster includes some Saturdays, shared across the team.
Travel retail is a customer-facing business, so this is primarily an in-store role where you’ll build relationships with customers face-to-face as well as by phone and email.
Why make the move?
Maybe you already work in travel and are wondering what your next step looks like.
Perhaps you want:
- More opportunity to develop.
- A stronger team around you.
- Recognition for great performance.
- Interesting customers and itineraries.
- Access to travel-industry opportunities.
- A business where you can build a genuine long-term career.
