Major Gifts Manager
At CBM Australia, our mission is to end the cycle of poverty and disability. We believe every person with a disability deserves the opportunity to live a full and meaningful life, wherever they live.
As Australia's only international development organisation focused on disability inclusion, we work alongside communities, partners and supporters to create lasting change for people with disabilities in some of the world's poorest communities.
We are seeking an experienced, relationship-focused Major Gifts Manager to build meaningful partnerships with major donors and help grow CBM Australia's philanthropy income.
Working within our Fundraising and Engagement team and reporting to the Head of Philanthropy, you'll manage and grow a portfolio of approximately 100 to 150 qualified major donors and prospects. Through personalised engagement, thoughtful stewardship and confident gift conversations, you'll connect supporters with opportunities to make a significant and lasting impact.
This is an opportunity to combine strategic fundraising with genuine relationship-building, securing major gifts and multi-year commitments that advance disability inclusion and help end the cycle of poverty and disability.
Founded on Christian values, CBM enables compassionate Australians to be part of creating lasting positive change in our world. Join us and make a meaningful difference!
What you'll be doing
In this role, you will:
Manage and grow a qualified portfolio of approximately 100 to 150 major donors and prospective donors.
Develop tailored engagement plans based on each donor’s interests, motivations and giving potential.
Build trusted, long-term relationships through face-to-face meetings, virtual engagement and telephone conversations.
Lead major-gift conversations, donor asks, funding discussions and proposal presentations.
Prepare compelling proposals, cases for support and personalised impact communications.
Identify opportunities for upgraded giving, multi-year commitments and transformational gifts.
Apply disciplined moves-management practices across qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
Maintain accurate donor, pipeline and next-action information in the CRM, supporting reliable reporting and income forecasting.
Collaborate with philanthropy, fundraising, program impact, marketing and communications colleagues to create compelling donor experiences.
Undertake periodic interstate travel to meet and engage donors.
About you
You are an experienced relationship fundraiser who understands that successful major-gift fundraising begins with trust, curiosity and genuine engagement.
You combine strong interpersonal skills with sound fundraising judgement. You're comfortable understanding what motivates an individual donor, connecting their interests with meaningful opportunities and confidently guiding conversations towards significant giving.
To be considered for this role, you will have:
Enthusiasm for the mission of CBM Australia and confidence working within a faith-based organisation.
Demonstrated experience managing a portfolio of major donors and prospective donors.
Proven success in relationship-based fundraising and donor stewardship.
Experience developing and implementing donor moves-management strategies.
A track record of securing gifts of $10,000 or more.
Strong proposal-writing and donor-communication skills.
Experience using CRM systems and fundraising data to manage priorities, next actions and pipeline activity.
Excellent interpersonal, influencing and relationship-management skills.
The ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders across multiple teams.
Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
Experience securing multi-year or six-figure gifts, or working in international development, community services, a faith-based organisation or the not-for-profit sector, will be highly regarded.

Every day, CBM International is working in 63 countries around the world to transform lives. In 2015, CBM Australia worked directly in 17 of the poorest countries. Together, CBM globally seeks to empower people living with disability in the world's poorest countries, transforming their lives and breaking down the barriers in their homes and communities that stop them from reaching their full potential.
In low income countries, people living with disability are often unable to access basic rights and services such as education and healthcare, and are often excluded from employment, and social and community activities.
Without these opportunities, people with disability and their families often fall deeper into poverty and become more vulnerable to further disability. Globally, CBM works to break this persistent cycle. Disability and poverty go hand in hand, so we tackle them together.
