Industrial / Playground Designer

Help shape and deliver bespoke playgrounds and play spaces across Australia.

About Archiplay

Archiplay is a design and construct business delivering high-quality, custom playgrounds and play spaces for shopping centres, hospitality venues and public environments across Australia.

Our projects are bespoke — no two sites, designs or installations are the same. Each brings an opportunity to develop imaginative ideas and resolve the practical challenges that turn them into finished spaces.

With our design studio and workshop based together in Box Hill South, our designers work closely with the people who build and install their work. We value creativity, thoughtful design, quality and professional delivery.

The Role

We’re looking for a designer to join our growing team and contribute to the design and development of our custom playgrounds, furniture and structures.

You might be an industrial designer with strong technical and detailing skills, a creative designer who enjoys developing ideas into buildable outcomes, or someone with credible experience designing playgrounds and play spaces. An interest in both the creative and technical aspects of design would be especially valuable.

We’ll shape the role around your strengths and experience. Your work could include:

  • Developing concepts for custom playgrounds, play spaces, furniture and structures through sketching and 3D modelling
  • Exploring forms, materials and play opportunities within project requirements
  • Designing and developing new product ranges
  • Resolving technical and construction details to make designs buildable while maintaining design intent
  • Preparing detailed fabrication drawings, material schedules and information for manufacture
  • Collaborating with designers, fabricators, suppliers and installation teams to refine designs and resolve issues throughout delivery

You’ll have the opportunity to see your work progress from initial ideas into completed projects.

Experience & Approach

We welcome applications from designers at different stages of their careers. You don’t need to bring every skill listed below, but you should be able to show relevant work, explain your contribution and demonstrate a thoughtful approach to design.

We’re interested in people who bring strengths in one or more of these areas:

  • Industrial or product design
  • Playground and play-space design
  • Technical design, detailing and fabrication documentation
  • Design development for custom furniture, structures or architectural products
  • Practical knowledge of materials, manufacturing and construction

Across these backgrounds, we value:

  • Creative and practical problem-solving
  • Care and accuracy in your work
  • An ability to develop ideas in response to real project requirements
  • A thoughtful, detail-oriented approach to design
  • Clear communication and a collaborative approach
  • Organisation and follow-through
  • An interest in creating engaging, high-quality play spaces

SolidWorks experience is highly regarded, particularly for candidates with a technical design and detailing focus. Experience with AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite or other relevant design and modelling tools is also welcome.

Previous playground experience and knowledge of relevant Australian playground standards are valuable, though not required for every applicant.

What We Offer

  • Varied, bespoke projects and products with opportunities for creative and technical contribution
  • A close-knit design team with complementary creative and detailing strengths
  • Direct collaboration with our workshop and installation teams
  • Support to develop your skills and take on greater ownership as your capability grows
  • A professional, supportive environment that values thoughtful design and quality delivery
  • A full-time role based at our Box Hill South studio and workshop, with nearby cafes and free parking
  • Remuneration aligned with your skills and experience
