At Abel Studios, we've made cinematic films and content for brands including adidas, Porsche, Cetaphil, Elite Eleven and the AFL.
We’ve worked with UFC world champions, Test cricketers, AFL premiership players, Matildas and Olympic gold medallists. Our productions have taken us across Australia, New Zealand, New York and London.
We’re looking for a producer to run jobs from the first production budget through to final delivery. Someone who keeps clients informed, crew prepared and several productions moving at once.
The role
You own the production schedule and budget, and you’re the day-to-day contact for clients and crew. When something changes, you work out what it affects, make a plan and keep everyone informed.
You work with our directors and crew, and run post alongside our Head of Post. He leads the technical side; you manage the people, brief editors and give clear notes that move each cut forward.
Our founder leads sales and the business. You build the production budgets behind our quotes, so what we pitch is something we can deliver.
What you’ll be doing
- Building and managing schedules across several jobs, from pre-production through post.
- Managing client timelines, review rounds, approvals and delivery dates.
- Booking and briefing crew, equipment and suppliers, including holds, confirmations and call sheets.
- Organising locations, recces, permits, talent, releases and travel.
- Producing on set.
- Briefing editors, reviewing cuts, consolidating feedback and coordinating final exports and versions.
- Turning briefs and treatments into production budgets, then managing costs and tracking actuals once approved.
What the work is like
You’ll move between $250K+ campaigns with large crews and $10K jobs where the challenge is making something great on a tight budget. We care about both.
Most office weeks are normal hours. Shoot and travel days can run longer.
Your main base is The Commons, South Melbourne, with flexibility to work from home when the production schedule allows. We care about the work getting done, communication staying clear and being together when the job needs it.
We care about strong ideas, great cinematography and the detail that makes a film work. Our clients are collaborators, and our crew are people we want to work with again. When something goes wrong, we fix it together.
Who we’re looking for
You’re organised, clear and calm. You confirm rather than assume, spot clashes early and follow up without making people feel chased.
You’ve owned schedules, budgets and client relationships, and made decisions when plans changed. You can read a brief or treatment, work out what it takes to make and build a budget you can stand behind.
You’ve managed editors before. You can watch a rough cut, explain what isn’t working and help the editor deliver a better next version.
You’ve probably spent four or more years running complex jobs from pre-production through post, at a production company, content studio, agency or in-house brand team. Experience in events or another production environment is welcome if you also bring the film and post-production judgement this role needs.
An established network of crew, editors, suppliers, studios and talent agents would be a plus.
What you get
- $100,000–$120,000 base plus super.
- A full-time, permanent role based at The Commons, South Melbourne, with flexibility to work from home.
- Your own Commons membership, with access to 19 locations across Melbourne and Sydney.
- Work with established brands, athletes and directors.
- Responsibility across production, with room to grow into Head of Production.
