Your opportunity: \n

As a Senior Trader, you will be responsible for helping shape and deliver Ergon Retail's wholesale energy trading strategy across electricity, gas and environmental markets. Working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, you'll manage market positions, develop hedging and procurement strategies, and provide commercial insights that support risk management, cost optimisation and long-term business outcomes. This role also contributes to strategic energy projects, renewable energy initiatives and emerging opportunities across the evolving energy market.

Key Responsibilities will include: \n

    \n
  • Develop and implement trading, hedging and procurement strategies to optimise energy purchasing costs and manage market risk.
  • \n
  • Execute and manage energy market transactions across electricity, gas and environmental certificate markets in line with business objectives.
  • \n
  • Monitor market positions and ensure all trading activities comply with risk management frameworks, trading limits and regulatory requirements.
  • \n
  • Provide market expertise and commercial insights to support strategic projects, product innovation, renewable energy initiatives and emerging market opportunities.
  • \n
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to deliver commercial outcomes while maintaining high standards of safety, compliance and professional integrity.
  • \n
  • The role spans electricity trading, both physical and financial, gas, renewable energy certificates trading, PPA offtake and optimisation of our expanding BESS Fleet.
  • \n

The remuneration for your new role starts from $216,139 per annum + 14.75% superannuation for a 10-day fortnight.

What you'll bring \n

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

\n

    \n
  • Relevant AFMA accreditation (or the ability to obtain and maintain it), supporting compliance within an AFSL-regulated environment.
  • \n
  • Hedge Fund experience is desirable
  • \n
  • Extensive experience in energy trading, electricity derivatives, commodities or financial markets, with a strong understanding of market dynamics and regulatory requirements.
  • \n
  • Knowledge of the Australian Energy Market, energy trading, and regulatory environment.
  • \n
  • Demonstrated commercial acumen with a proven track record of delivering strong business and trading outcomes.
  • \n
  • Strong negotiation skills and experience managing high-value transactions to achieve favourable commercial results.
  • \n
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • \n
  • Experience identifying and delivering new commercial opportunities, initiatives or revenue streams that support strategic business objectives.
  • \n
  • A postgraduate qualification in Finance, Business or a related discipline will be highly regarded.
  • \n
