Right now, we're looking for an experienced
Leading Hand
to join our
Mining Workshop.
The Leading Hand plays a critical role in supporting the Workshop Manager to coordinate daily operations.
This position combines hands-on trade work with frontline leadership, ensuring production targets, safety standards, and quality requirements are consistently achieved.
Acting as the link between the workshop floor and management, you will allocate tasks, monitor progress, mentor team members, and maintain efficient, safe, and compliant workflows.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise and coordinate day-to-day workshop activities under the direction of the Workshop Manager.
Allocate tasks, monitor progress, and ensure deadlines and quality standards are met.
Provide hands-on trade expertise (approx. 80% of role) including repairs, maintenance, fabrication, and assembly.
Uphold Alfabs' "Zero Harm" objectives and ensure compliance with WHS, quality, and environmental standards.
Conduct pre-starts, safety inspections, and verify SWMS / JSA documentation.
Mentor apprentices and trades personnel, fostering teamwork and positive morale.
Assist with scheduling, resource planning, and accurate job documentation.
Act as acting Workshop Manager when required.
What you'll bring :
Trade qualification in fabrication, mechanical, or related discipline.
Proven experience in workshop operations and frontline leadership.
Strong understanding of WHS and quality compliance requirements.
Ability to balance hands-on work with supervisory responsibilities.
Excellent communication and team-building skills.
Competence in job tracking and administrative tasks.
